Could be a fuse or maybe needs the bulb or led replacing, maybe a dashboard circuit board fault or wiring fault or even a problem with the engine management ECU.

Needs checking out starting with a fuse check and a fault code reading to check whether the system is alive or not. After that it would be advisable to have a repair manual and wiring diagram to hand...

SOURCE: brake lights wont turn on.1994 gmc sierra.

This may sound too simple, but first verify that you are getting voltage to the light socket. Use meter on d.c. If you are getting voltage, and your bulb is good, it could be a bad ground. Don't overlook the brake light system goes through the directional signal in the steering column.

Do the headlamps light ? Dome light come on when you open the door ? Did you check for bad fuse's that supply the ignition switch ? Check fuse's F422 - 20amp and F431 20 amp . These supply B+ voltage to ignition switch .

Where is the oil sending unit on a 1996 mercury cougar xr7 ? Its cause my oil pressure gauge is bouncing up and down...i dont know why...can anybody please help me thank you so much

The low oil pressure warning lamp will illuminate anytime the ignition switch is turned to the ON position without the engine running. When the engine is running, the light also illuminates if the engine oil pressure drops below a safe oil pressure level. To test the system, perform the following:
If the oil pressure light does not work, perform the following:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. If the lamp does not light, check for a broken or disconnected wire around the engine and oil pressure sending unit switch.
  3. If the wire at the connector checks out OK, pull the connector loose from the switch and, with a jumper wire, ground the connector to the engine.
  4. With the ignition switch turned to the ON position, check the warning lamp. If the lamp lights, make sure the oil pressure switch is properly grounded in the cylinder block, and if so replace the oil pressure switch. If the lamp still fails to light, check for a burned out lamp or disconnected socket in the instrument cluster.
To diagnose an oil pressure light that stays on, perform the following:
  1. Check the engine oil level and top off as necessary. If the engine was 2 or more quarts low on oil, test start the engine after topping off the oil level and recheck the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on, stop the engine immediately and go to the next step.
  2. Disconnect the wire at the sending unit, then turn the ignition switch to theON position. If the light remains on, check the wire from the sending unit to the gauge for being shorted to ground and repair as necessary. If the light goes out, turn the ignition switch OFF and go to the next step.
  3. Replace the oil pressure sending switch with a known good switch.
  4. Start the engine and check the oil pressure light operation. If the light stays on with the engine running, stop the engine immediately to avoid severe engine damage until the cause of the problem can be determined.

WARNING
If the oil pressure light remains on while the engine is started, stop the engine immediately. Do not operate the engine until the cause of the problem can be determined. Operating an engine with low oil pressure will cause severe internal damage.

Possible causes for an oil pressure light to stay on are:

Pinched or grounded sensor wireDefective oil pressure sending unitRestricted or severely leaking oil filterExcessive internal engine bearing clearance.Insufficient or severely contaminated engine oilBlocked oil pump pickup screen or severely worn oil pump

Fig.: Oil pressure switch (sending unit) schematic

The low oil pressure warning lamp will illuminate when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position without the engine running. The lamp also illuminates if the engine oil pressure drops below a safe oil pressure level. To test the system, perform the following:

If the lamp still fails to light, check for a burned out lamp or disconnected socket in the instrument cluster.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
On the 2.4L engine, the oil pressure switch is located on the side of the engine block facing the firewall. On the 3.0L engine, the oil pressure switch is located on the oil filter adapter housing, next to the starter motor. On the 3.3L and 3.8L engines, the oil pressure switch is located next to the oil filter.
  1. Locate the oil pressure sending unit on the engine.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Disconnect the pressure switch electrical harness.
  4. Using a pressure switch socket, deep-well socket or wrench, loosen and remove the pressure switch from the engine.
To install:
  1. Install the pressure switch into the engine and tighten securely.
  2. Attach the electrical connector to the switch.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4. Start the engine, allow it to reach operating temperature and check for leaks.
  5. Check for proper oil pressure switch operation.

Hope this helps (remember to rate this answerr).

There is no spark at the spark plugs and tahoe wont start

First check power to the coil. Pull the connector off and probe the connector terminal from the pink wire with a 12 volt test light. Connect the test light clip to a ground point/bolt on the engine. The test light should come on when the ignition switch is on. If not, suspect the ECM-1 fuse is bad or the ignition switch is bad.
If there is power to the coil, next test the coil. Run a jumper from the battery positive terminal to the pink terminal on the coil itself. Pull the coil wire off the distributor and place the wire close (within 1/4 inch) to a ground point on the engine. Then, briefly touch a jumper from the black/white coil terminal to engine ground. The coil should release a spark. If not, replace the coil.
If the coil is good, suspect the crankshaft position sensor is bad or loose. I'm assuming your engine light is off, but the sensor can fail without setting the engine light. If the engine light is on, see if you can get a scan to see if a crankshaft sensor trouble code is set.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Where do you check the transmission fluid

It's synthetic fluid and there is no dipstick , transmission sealed.
How to check fluid:
Warm up engine , raise vehicle on the lift with engine runing on park position , unscrew drain plug (don't warry it has tube in there ), if you see fluid coming out for 10-15 sec.- level is ok.
If nothing coming out - level is low.
There is a filler tube in front of the transmission with the red cap and red plustic sealing clamp.
If you able to take clamp out without braking it , you can reuse it after.
Fill transmission through filler tube with engine runing
and trany on park position , till fluid starts runing from drain plug , reinstall drain plug , reseal filler tube.
NEVER TURN ENGINE OFF WITH TRANSMISSION DRAIN PLUG UNINSTALLED !!!!!!!!!!!
