the ignition module (ignition switch on top of the steering column) normally doesn't get stuck.
things you can try:
steering wheel lock: (the pin gets a "burr" on it and locks everything up) wiggle steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn key.
transmission lock (parking on an incline will jam up the interlock)
push the shifter farther into park while trying to turn the key, or wiggle shifter
On Mercedes, and most German cars for that matter, you can only turn the key to the start position once. Then you have to turn the key completely off to turn it back to the start position again.
On almost all cars the steering wheel can also prevent you from turning the key, if the wheel is jammed to one side or the other. If you giggle the steering wheel left and right while turning the key, you can usually unjam it.
Hope this helps. Good luck and have a nice evening. Peter
On mine you have to push the brake to release the steering sounds like it is jammed turn key to on position then put in gear and back to park if it is automatic and try moving steering whell at same time to get it unjammed this is a pretty common thing with the focus
Make sure the transmission is either in Park or Neutral position. Take the key off of the key ring - sometimes a heavy weight of other keys etc. swinging on the ignition key wears the lock so it gets flaky. Now try turning the key while pressing it slightly upwards. You may have move it in or out just a little bit to find the "sweet spot" that releases the lock.
If this works, at least you can get the vehicle to a convenient place for repairs.
This is a very common situation that arises when the steering-lock mechanism binds, it is usually because the wheels are jammed against the curb. Follow the instructions below to solve the issue:-- 1) First of all make sure that the transmission is in park. Set the parking brake to prevent the car from rolling farther against the curb 2) Pull hard on the steering wheel while turning it in both directions. This will normally free the wheel, but if it does not help. then, 3) Release the parking brake and put the transmission in neutral. Let up on the foot pedal just enough to rock the car slightly.and now turn the steering wheel again. this time the key should turn now. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.
Try having someone rock the car frontwards and backwards, while you rock the steering wheel back and forth and try to turn the key - it sounds like you're jammed up hard against the steering column lock.
