My Peugeot 407 front right wheel area creeks like mad as I set off, break, turn. Just had track rods done but still occurs as before. Suspension rusty/dry? It's a 58 plate saloon!

Most likely a shock, spring or something with front suspension. What is happening is the suspension components can't move freely and therefore are creaking

Interesting as the noise lessens in the wet weather so clearly lunrication helps. Dry and got now, it's gone nuts again! THANKYOU will get it checked.

I have the same problem on an '04 model. I'm replacing the Stabilizer link bars. That is here my noise is coming from. Should be able to replace with a minimume amount of effort. Two bolts and thats about it. I'll let you know how it works out.

SOURCE: Peugeot 407 SW 2006 wash wipe, no water coming from front.

The pipe that caries the water come off the connector under the wheel arch, you have to take the wheel off on the side of the water reservoir and the protective lining. Apply a bit of super glue to it, it's not very difficult to do.

SOURCE: peugeot 407, 2.0 litre diesel, 05,loss of power/air surge heard

I am not familiar with the 407 but I would think it is a HDi, if so what you describe is an air leak from a pipe from the pressure side of the turbo, I have had this on a Saab, in that case there was an over pressure switch under the dash and the pipe fell off. Look at the top of the engine, on the inlet side there will be a pipe from the inlet trunking or manifold, it should (maybe with a tee piece in there) go through the bulkhead

SOURCE: 2001 Impala,

Has to be a drive axle, most likely an inner joint, should be able to feel the play if one is bad (jacked up to let the wheel spin freely).
Also. If the front suspension is weak,or lowered, the CV axle will bottom out in the inner plunge cup and make a terrible vibration.

Testimonial: "You Called it !! Both axles were worn out at inner joint left boot blownout dry barings, right axle needle barings gone, baring floating around inside"

How do I change track rod

Hello there.
You should really buy a 'Haynes Manual' if you are doing this kind of work on your car.
The item you are renewing is either a 'Track rod end ' or a 'Tie Rod'..
I presume you are going to change a Track Rod End.

Here we go !

.1) First Jack up the car and support on axle stands properly. You should ALWAYS do this. Jacks CANNOT be trusted EVER.

2) Undo the small nut on the top of the Ball joint. You then need to use a Ball Joint Splitter or a 'homemade metal wedge' and big Hammer, and insert it between the two parts (Track rod end and suspension extension) and separate the two parts. The 'bolt' that the nut was on is a tapered fit so it will be hard to separate the two. .

3) When separated, undo the locknut on the other end of the Track Rod end and 'unscrew' the whole Track rod end from the Tiie Rod..
IMPORTANT Make a note of how many turns it took to 'unscrew' the Track Rod end from the Tie Rod.

4) Screw the new Track Rod end into the Tie Rod as exactly the same number of turns to take out the old one if you can. (DONT forget to put the old locknut on to the new Track Rod End first !!!!)

5) Locate the thread of the new ball joint through the Suspension extension as was initially found and then fully tighten a NEW Nyloc nut on the top of the threaded part. (If you use the old nut and the steering comes apart at 70 MPH don't blame me)

6) Tighten the lock nut on the other end on the Track Rod End.

7) Take to a Tyre shop and have the TRACKING re-aligned. If you dont do this your tyres will only last for two weeks or so. !!!!!!

Rear camber

there is adjustment on the track rods and radius rods for the rear end suspension. Check that the suspension bushes and rubbers are in good condition. The rear end alignment should always be checked and adjusted before attempting to align the front end . IT needs to be done on a wheel aligning machine

Merc c200 steering wheel is hard when turning to the right, but softer when turnig to the left

firstly disconnect the track rod ends from suspension and turn each suspension unit on its own to check for tightness ,then lower front suspension onto some stands and try again ,if both sides still move freely then you need a new steering rack as the spool valve inside the rack is faulty

Peugeot 407 05 reg my abs and esp lights stay on why

have it plugged in at your local garage and if it comes up with right rear wheel speed sensor faulty then dont panic!!
usually if you remove the sensor and clean up the area where it sits with some sand paper or a file and re fit it then it should be fine

let me know if this helps

There is a rod on the front end that has a crack along half of it, it's connected to the tire and the steering is wobbly and loose

HI, it sounds to me like your talking about your track rod end this is what turns the wheel when you turn the steering wheel you will need to get someone at a garage to do this for you as you need to get the tracking set up correct after else you wont be able to drive.

they use a laser machine to set the tracking on a special machine it isnt something you can do yourself at home as the machine cost several thousands so its not the kind of tool you would have plus its huge and you would need a whole garage to store it in.

the part itself the track rod end is cheap to buy and cheap to get fitted and should only take an hour for a mechanic to fit and then an hour to set the tracking.

not getting this done will cause that part to break and then this will cause the wheel to buckle in on itself then this will damage a lot of your car it will damage the wing and could damage the brakes and end up costing you a fortune so this is something you need to get done as soon as possible.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

pz rate this post as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

My car is Honda Civic 1995 model. When I drive it on an irregular road or even on straight road it's steering moves left and right. It did not have complete grip on the road. It seems like the where ever...

Hi, to me the problem sounds like the track rod ends need replacing these are what connects the steering to the hub now when you turn the wheel the track rod ends push the hubs in the way you want to turn but what happens ball joint on the track rod end get play in it is it allows the wheels to turn slightly on their own left and right now once these have been replaced you will have no problems.
if the ball joints where to break you would lose control of the car as the steering wheel would not turn the wheels as instructed and they would be free to turn any way they liked, this would cause damage to the front wings and the hub costing a fortune to put right, but as it stands the track rod ends cost very little to buy and dont cost much to get replaced.

how ever this isnt the kind of job you can do yourself as you would need to get the tracking set up to ensure the wheels are driving in a strait line as their is adjusters that need to be set up after the track rod ends are fitted.

once you have the track rod ends ( tie rods also known as) fitted you will have no further problems and you will then be in full control of your vehicle it will feel a lot more responsive to your control so this needs doing sooner rather than later.

ABS and brake fault warning

I has a clicking/knocking noise on one of my 407 (54 plate) front wheels after a change of brake pads. On investigation I found that the bracket to which the caliper hydraulic hose was fixed (at the lower end of the suspension strut) had been bent downward and was catching the CV boot clip. I bent it back up and the noise went. It is possible (if the brake caliper is not supported during pad change) to bend the bracket supporting the hydraulic hose. It could also interfere with the ABS wheel sensor bracket - check. Simply jack-up and support the car on the side with the noise and turn the wheel by hand to see what gives (don't go under the car until it is supported safely)..

Wheel tracking

your tracking settings correct its zero eighth toe out the problem you have got is either they havn,t done the tracking correct by linning the front wheels with the back wheels or they have lined it up with your back wheels but the geometry on your back wheels is out so when the front is lined up with the back it automaticly knocks your front out of line it all depends on the tracking device they have used but a good mechanic would have noticed this and told you and wouldn,t have sent it out if the cars still pulling to one side did they check your cambers as these will cause the car to pull to one side as would set back onyour front wheels if its more 2.5cm how good is the bloke the did your tracking ? what you can do is the basics check your tyre presures then swop your front wheels over as sometimes if your tracking has been out it wears the tyres uneven then when tracking is put right it pulls to that side swapping the wheels cures this
