That depends on how often the engine is abused, how long it sits without running, the length of time between oil changes and driver habits. Normal mileage for that engine is greater than 100,000 miles before overhaul if it has never been overheated and serviced correctly as stated in the owners manual.

The best thing to do is go to an exhaust specialist, who can check the catylitic converter and also the oxygen sensors. You will need to replace these items if they are at fault. Hope this helps

Engine failure mode message on display

Hi Keith

Probably those little Jag gremlins at it again ?

First thing to do is clear the computers memory, which normally does the trick.

Disconnect both battery terminals, switch on the ignition to start 6 times, this wipes the computer memory, and then reconnect the battery, the Positive + first......... then the Negative -----

Start the car and go from there.

Suspect you had a low battery previously, and this tripped the warning.

Get the battery checked, if it is the original, as it is now 8yrs old, and should be replaced.

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be appreciated Thank you !

John.

Smoke after starting cold

According to Jaguar, the engine has a heater fitted inside the engine which automaticly switches on when you start the engine and switches of at a pre-determaned time, this expells steam from underneath the car, and considered as normal.
Therf are other answers in the Jaguar forum, take a look there. I have the same effect with my X-Type.

I had the same problem. The dealership wanted to charge me $12,000.00. I told them where they could go...The problem with my engine (I also found out this is common with this style, year, whatever) the timing chain busted...NOT the timing belt, but the chain inside. I had the engine rebuilt.
