sounds like your ignition timing is mal-adjusted. The timing is off. Go buy a Haynes repair manual and look in the section on how to re-time your motor. Has to do with re-adjusting the distributor's position in relation to the camshafts (you have 2). You may also need to change the timing belts.
The vibration is due to the rubber in the motor mounts wearing out. I change mine periodically with Urethane motor mounts.
yes. in order to change the rear valve cover gasket the easiest way to get it out is to drop the subframe which supports the motor from under the vehicle
Get a friend to open the hood and look at the engine go up or down in the engine compartment when the brakes are firmly applied and switching between reverse and drive. Look for the motor mounts for behavior where tears exist in the rubber.
Have you changed the plug wire/boot? Sounds like you are not getting proper spark to the plug or it may be shorting out. You may also have an intake/vacuum leak near the affected cylinder.
Good call on the engine mounts, this problem has had a lot of TB owners scratching their head. Hope you used genuine GM mounts, aftermarket mounts tend to crush too much sending you back with the same problem you started with. With aftermarket mounts, the engine will not be as high as needed, the rubber isn't as stiff. Seen this many times. The other thing to check is you tranny mounts. Engine and tranny mounts are usually the culprit with vibration while in gear and stopped with TB's. What type of plugs did you install? Have you cleaned your throttle body?
The lincoln had problems with the engine mounts, the first thing i would do is to have all the engine and trany mounts checked and also the front suspension, i dont think its the running of the motor because the check engine light is not on, so it would have to be a mount type problem good luck, hope this is helpful.
Your best bet would be to pick up a Chilton manual from autozone. It will give you step by step instructions on how to do all kinds of things with your vehicle, including the motor mounts.
no should be same engine. check your engine mounts and tranny mount. how bad a vibration? sometimes after installing engine the trans gets shifted around and if mount was worn it will allow it to hit crossmeber and vibrate.
Try checking the engine/transmission mounts, one of them may not have been reinstalled properly, or worn out, causing a vibration. If the car is able to move with the new clutch, and it seems to work, I wouldn't say the clutch was put in wrong. Also check the wires around the engine/transmission, you may have knocked something loose as well.
Hope this helps
