Brake wear indicator and low brake fluid warning indication are two different circuits.

They are not related.

==
Easy route to check brake pads is the measure the gab between the rotor and the metal portion of the brake pad.

If it's low then replace it.
==

The right way is to pull the tires and measure the thickness of the remaining brake pad.

===

Most shop give free brake inspection with oil change,

Check it out before the pad cuts into the rotor and it will DOUBLE the cost of your brake job.

My handbrake light keeps flickering on my 1996 vw golf convertible

this could simply be a loose connection on the handbrake switch but this light is also the brake fluid level warning light so it might be a good idea to check the brake fluid level too. also it might be part of the brake pad warning system ane may indicate that the brake pads are nearing replacement it is also required to replace the warning wires with the pads

let me know if this helps

cheers mike

Brake light comes on dash when brakeing then off with acceleration

hi 1st thing to check is the brake fluid level is topped up as the reservoir has a sensor fitted to cap so as brake pads/shoes wear the fluid is displaced from reservoir to compensate cylinders hence fluid level falls and puts light on as you brake ? also possibility is that your pads may be fitted with low brake pads warning indicators/wires which also puts same light on as you brake and goes off when you let off to accelerate ? check both of these possibilities if you req more help/advice by all means come back with info

Red brake warning light is coming on randomly, only stays on briefly, but has never come on before. it started yesterday, wonder if it's at all weather related as it's been bitterly cold? do I need to get...

Have your brakes check out, could be getting low on brake pads or shoes, which will make your brake fluid get low, to make up for the space of wear of your brake pads or shoes, check and fill your master cylinder to the max level mark.Being that the brake fluid is low the sensor in the master cylinder will make the warning light come on.Fill and have your brakes checked.

R Reg 1998 Golf GTi, the reverse lights aren't working

check the shifter as it should have the reverse contact in the console, if the shifter has some play in it then the contacts for the switch could have become damaged.. good luck
