Codes are P0120, P0172, P0440. While in park idling sounds terrible, starts ticking. Can ya'll point me to what problem is causing codes, what to check first, etc.

for the cheapest TEMPORARY solution get some fuel injector cleaner and get on the gas fo about 5 mile at like 100 - 120 miles an hour thats what idid to mine last week hasnt wanted to die out since. good luck.

It's possible the shift lock solenoid, the wiring, or the fuse is bad.

yea if it runs on start fluid then your not getting enough fuel .. you are likley going to have to change out that fuel pump .. you might hear it come on but it might not be pumping fluid forward .. good luck

I have the same problem with a 2004 Volvo C70. It will start sometimes, then not. Turns over, rpms go up, then dies. I keep trying and maybe it will start, or wait 10-15 min. I have changed the Antenna Ring, bought a new key and programmed it at dealer, and still have the issue. Its been happening so long, that i have figured that its not a cold/warm weather issue, not battery, not starter (it cranks). Any suggestions would be very welcom.

P0171 indicates a lean condition. The most common cause of this is a defective mass air flow sensor. Also check if any vacuum leaks.Replace MAf sensor,if cleaning the MAF does not help.
OBD II P0172 Fuel System Too Rich (Bank 1).P0172 - System Too Rich (Bank 1) Essentially this DTC means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 detected a rich condition.
When the code says that the Fuel System is "too rich," it means that the computer has been subtracting more and more fuel, which is called Long Term Fuel Trim. Ideally, the Long Term Fuel Trim should be close to 1 to 2 percent. When a code P0172 is set, it means that the Fuel Trim is anywhere from -15 percent to as low as -30 percent compensated. When this happens, the computer knows that there is an improper condition in the control of the Fuel System.
