SOURCE: need to bypass ignition switch on nissan sentra

it should be underneath your car in between the firewall and the engine. Now you don't want to supply direct power to your starter because you'll end up frying it. However to just start the car once you've located the starter, get a long screwdriver with a plastic handle and connect the two wires with the screwdriver.

As for a long term fix, without investing the money to replace the necessary parts. You will need to attach a wire that can handle 12v to both wires on your starter separately. Then connect the other ends of both wires to a switch that can handle 12v, and mount that in your car somewhere. Then whenever you need to start your car just flip the switch on until the car starts then once it is started flip it back off.
I know this sounds like a lot but it is very doable with about $5 and a little bit of time.

SOURCE: How do I change the starter in a 2000 Nissan?

Go to Maxima.org. There is a section on changing the starter, complete with photos. I changed mine (2000 Maxima) after reading the instructions and it took only 40-minutes. The only hard part is getting one of the starter bolts loose, but I did it using additional leverage from a metal, hollow broom stick.

SOURCE: How do I change the starter in a 2000 Toyota Camry LE

i'm sure it's not the starter itself that is the problem, have the stater's solenoid checked...it might be stucked. It's quite a lot of work removing the starter but you can do it if you are willing enough to learn. You just need the right idea and tools to do it. Hope this will help save you bucks!

Car won't start hazard lights keep coming on

THAT IS CALLED A DEAD STARTER OR NO CRANK . condition. period.
6 TO 10- CAUSES of dead starter.
WHAT WORDS AND GOALS (stages)
CRANKS (key to start/crank) or button start /stop pushed for start.
STARTS (loud cranking heard if engine is dead)_
AND RUNS (grins)
AND STAYS RUNNING, (bliss)
IN THAT ORDER ONLY, MY CAR PUSH STARTS SO GOES FROM PUSH TO RUNS,. JUST 2 STEPS(stick shift bliss this) M/Tbox.
when kid 15yo id park on a hill and do rolling starts. 3 speed manual box then./

turns over means zero, (turns = spins the starter spins and if lucky the engine crank shaft spins or turns and if lucky starts.
turns never means runs. ever. it is called RUNNING.
some call running at idle others (old) say engine ticks over.
yes heard all the slang but do avoid TURNS. and OVER.()roger over and out)

https://youtu.be/2OBZf0QdKdE

I just fixed my neighbors, the hood knows i diagnose cars for free, retired me.
her car the battery reads, 10.7vDC (truth here is only discharged)
2020 Nissan.
head lamps bright, proves nothing here. at all (unless fully dead lamps)
the battery pushes 5 amps to head lamp but can not muster 100amps to the starter. so starter is dead or after 10 tries. tiny clicks heard under hood.
I see dash lamp dim a bit at crank attempts, a huge clue there.

causes. are: in order.
including lies the BCM dash lamp tells. (key IMMO failure lamp glows)
a huge lie there, 2020 car, and I know why the 10.7vdc battery causes most computers on board to lie or be dead.

(fast forward, only here the battery is dead. and no DTC ever stored, after cure.

PCM OBD2 jack we scan the under dash jack, shows comms dead, CAN_bus dead (her car)
and expected by me. (took 20min after my full charge the cars electronics to work again, ) NOTE THE DELAY.
now your causes all and in order
battery lugs, loose or rusty or both
no battery ever lasted 17 years, so is on 2 or 3 battery now. or due for 3rd !!!!!

on the gals car above the tag top-o-bat reads 2020 see? I always look at tags.
  1. battery lugs ok, and clean', battery not 7 years old or more.
  2. battery voltage not 10v but 12.6vdc , rested 1hr. is it? if not charge it.we ran a 75ft extension from her house to street to charge it. with my charger.
  3. or drag the battery to the work bench and charge it. or to any shop, say test it. this battery in hand,.. (way cheaper than any tow truck) or jump start it.
  4. my load bank test shows hard failure, even no load, and BAD shows on dial loaded, but the battery in here car is good, and fails this test.
  5. next up, charged, the IMMO key lamp must not show failing key,we tried both. keys.
  6. starter relay bad.
  7. PRNDL fails at start in Park and Reverse both, or just park. bingo SOLVED
  8. the starter is bad, even hot wired it fails keys not near car.
  9. simple failures here, just a starter not the 50causes of engine failure.

I only jumper cable start cars if in some kind of panic (stalled in snow bank)?
I charge the battery first with the tool called a battery charger.
this is more safe for electronics old relic chargers can push 20vdc and never is that safe for modern cars(computers max).
my charger is a smart charger.

this one is real good, 1hr charge and it is 90% charged, from 10.7v.

2012 Ford Territory diesel starts for a second then dies straight away, the dashboard and ICC are not illuminated

bad fuses is first (done) good.
head lamps work key off and ON?
glow plugs dead?

what means cranks
not even cranking at all
the starter motor DC spins called cranking
then starter motor cranks the crank shaft fast. if does the engine starts if fuel is there and glow plugs not dead.
do not use the word crank for start.
starts and runs and sustains running is what matters
if the starter fails that is simple causes, not like dead engines and 50 causes see?

the starter will not spin if
battery dead or weak or 4 lug ends loose or rusty
starter relay not bad.
PRNDL switch (A./T box) fails in park we next crank it in Neutral

I fail to understand this line
"after trying a few times it's not even cranking at all.? starter motor dead? try to more clear ,?
starter RPM is near 300 on most cars/trucks. 500cca or more.
starters do all these things, for sure, failing: below:
GRRRRRRGGRRRR good sound.,,NORMAL:
dead silent starter. but relay may click or not.
clicks its solenoid , weakly , nothing else happens.
chatters the solenoid but cranks shaft dead. 8v at battery caused.
loud bang!, starter sound on seized engine, or starter shims wrong.(if)
or starter itself is pure Seized, up.
starter spins crazy fast, not crankshaft at all
caused by bad starter drive gear & its mate, flywheel ring gear
even a dirty starter drive pinion jammed up in gunk there. can not slide fully.
starter is slow, as is crank shaft bad battery or bad starter, yes starters can fail and be weak, or 100% intermittent, same as PRNDL or relay

if starter motor ever fails on any car (not sinkn hondas)
the next step is crank in neutral foot on brake.
PRNDL, the P switch fails first and the N, mostly not.
all tow truck drivers know this.
and use jumper cables to prove battery is not droppng low.
under load, below 10vdc cranked is not good as computers can go off line below that ending fueling.
Solenoid main chatters at 8vdc., spec on them actual. and me testing them.

see this gem of voltage plot in time,
scope view or GDMM
see the 10volts there? this drop is battery cell resistance only
normal.

Went to get gas the other day and got back in it and it wont start turn key and it does nothing, we tried jumping it and nothing.. had to tow it home

It won't crank? Have you tried rapping the starter with a hammer-a light tap- to see if it will work? If that works, the starter is going out and needs replaced. Alternatively, take the starter off and have it tested for free at a parts store.

The car wont start. I know its either the starter or just the cyllinoid to the starter. Im trying to take off the starter but I cant seem to locate the bolts. How do I take the starter off?

  1. why do that ?, why not post the symptoms and ask for help.?
i suspect you meant the engine will not crank. ????????????
no engine starts unless, cranked or push started (my stick car starts 3ways, starter cranked, push started or gravity(hill) started.
my guess is this Esteem is A/T tranny. and only 1 way.
And will not crank. here are the steps and logic.

  1. all fuses good, battery lugs cleaned.
  2. jumper cables, on your battery to other car, running.
  3. it crankes and runs , your battery is dead or only discharged.
  4. so you find it dont crank jumper cable started.
  5. the means its 1 of 2 things, bad starter or bad key LINE>
  6. so you then , hot wire the solenoid, on side of starter , it has 2 big lugs and 1 tiny lug, keys in pocket you jumper the tiny lug to big outside lug, (battery lug +)
  7. you find out the started cranks now. wow it works. i saved you 4 hours labor and trips to store and all that bull. THE KEY LIKE IS DEAD.!
  8. if it dont crank now the starter is bad (with charged battery)
  9. ok it cranks hot wired, it wont start cuz key in pocket for safety.
  10. you then do these tricks see here.
  11. http://www.fixkick.com/nocrank.html#tricks
  12. see the other tests there, and the hot wire too. and lots more.
  13. there is no need to guess, if you have a voltmeter, 100 points.
  14. The rested battery voltage should be 12.6vdc if not its discharged. so charge it.

Jeep wont start

that is stater failure, (not a part, a system of parts)
if it cant crank over, it will not start if transmission is A/T.
my m/t push starts and gravity starts.

the starter can fail to crank for a vast number of reasons.
at least.
battery dead, bad or weak ,or discharged
battery cable ends corroded, zero service.
starter bad. (the part)
key line dead.
shifter a/t switch bad "PRNDL", wiggle it and then try to crank in NEUTRAL. yes wiggle the shift lever as you CRANK.
alarm system cut outs, (non stock alarm?)
remote start bs, (no rant, ill not do that...)
wiring hack jobs by persons that are clueless.
bad wiring
bad grounds
it the starter case with a rubber hammer , smartly, cranks now?
check battery voltage as you crank, if it drops below 10v (11 is better)
the baTTERY IS weak or starter is shorted. ( i then whip out my ammeter,, and,,,,,, sure you have no tools.)

1991 Lexus 400 - engine doesn't start - battery seems charged - 12.3 volts - makes clicking sound only - doesn't turn over at all.

Is it one click or multiple clicks. If it's multiple clicks, it sounds like a dead battery. Voltage isn't always an indicator of a good battery, you need to have enough cranking amps to be able to start an engine also. If you have dash lights and it only clicks once, you could have a bad starter. An easy way to check this is to try and jump start the vehicle. If it starts up with a jump start, you need a new battery. If it still doesn't start up and it just clicks, you probably need a new starter.

Good Luck!

Will not start. turn key, nothing

Check the battery first--turn on the lights--ok? If not, either the battery is dead or the cables to it are in bad condition--usually the connectors themselves. Remove each and clean both post and interior of the connector with a wire brush made for the purpose. If the battery itself is dead, try to recharge it. If it won't charge, you probably need a new battery. If it does take a charge and the truck will run, check the battery voltage with the engine running--you should see roughly 2 volts over the battery rated voltage. If it reads just battery voltage, the alternator probably has problems. An auto parts house will usually check the alternator for free.
