Check your fuel pump relay. if not that, then it's your fuel pump. the gas gauge is in the fuel pump, so if your fuel pump stopped working, your gas gauge won't work

check the fuel pump fuse/relay, could be just bad enough to cause an intermittent start/no start. and check fuel pressure, spark and the crank position sensor.

You do have a filter and it's mounted right on top of the pump on outside of tank...it is also the pressure regulator. You really should put a pressure gauge on the fuel system and check it out though. you may find there is a problem elsewhere. Good and proper testing is the only way to get answers about problems especially now that systems are all electronically controlled.

When I go to crank 2000 jeep Cherokee limited the fuel gage works sometimes and it will only run for about three seconds what's wrong?

The computer grounds the fuel pump relay for 3 seconds to boost fuel pressure on start-up. If the computer does not see oil pressure or RPM it will not continue to ground the relay.
You would need to bypass the relay and see if the pump continues to run, then check the relay and the ground signal from the computer.
The gas gauge problem may be connected or something different.
The connector at the gas tank may be faulty which would affect both the power for the pump and the fuel gauge sending unit.

Had 94 jeep grand cherokee to mechanic last week and they replaced the fuel pump seal for $200. Noticed the gas gauge wasn't moving 2 days later. 6 days later, jeep shut off while driving and towed back to...

yes, are you sure that you did not just run out of gas, because the gage was not working? it sounds like they may have not gotten the fuel pump module back in the tank properly that would explain the no fuel gage, also when they had the pump out they may have damaged the wiring to the pump that could cause it to fail.

Similar to mezouii, my jeep grand cherokee laredo runs out of gas quite often and sooner than it should. the gas gage is broken but i time the mileage after i gas up and i should be able to go twice as far...

sounds like somone has a garden hose in your tank personaly i would check the fuel tank ground
it is likely the reason your gage doesnt work
once gage works you can properly monitor fuel use

Jeep wont start.

while someone is cranking over the engine listen under the rear of the truck at the gas tank for the fuel pump. is it buzzing ? if not try again while cranking with a Rubber Hammer tapping on the center of the gas tank, if it starts you will need a fuel pump.
good luck chris

Gas needle want move and gas tank symbol stays on. 1998 Grand Cherokee jeep Limited 5.9

Sounds like your fuel gage sending unit has quit working. The fuel tank will need to be removed to gain access to the sending unit. Then you can replace the sending unit and replace the fuel tank to it;s position and your good to go.Good luck.

Fuel gauge

you either have a bad sending unit, which iit is in the fuel pump assembly in the tank or a hole in the float and it fills with gas and sinks, which it's also on the fuel pump assembly in the tank or a bad fuel gauge in the instrument cluster. it's more than likely a sending unit problem, jeeps are bad about the sending unit to quit working
