Temp gauge will go to hot & come back to normal,is it thermostat?

try the thermostat first if its not that SELL IT lol the head gaskets can cause it to over heat so will cracked or warped heads if you drive it to long overheating ( if it is )
you can do alot of damage to the engine GET IT LOOKED AT this can some times be very costly to fix

It could be an air leak. Check for bleed valves in the cooling system on top of the engine.

Old hoses could have collapsed internally. Replace radiator hoses.

Check connection to temperature sender- could be gauge.

IT MAY BE YOUR RADIATOR AS THE SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM, WATER PRESSURE DOESN'T CONTROL TEMPERATURE. THE TEMPERATURE IS REGULATED BY HOW WELL THE RADIATOR COOLS THE WATER COMING FROM THE MOTOR,WATER PRESSURE IS REGULATED BY SPEED OF THE MOTOR, CHECK WWATER PUMP AS WELL
