It could be. The PCM will only let it go so high in park or neutral. Usually 3000+. If it drives normally and goes to higher RPM's, I wouldn't worry about it. Cats won't cause this.

The vibrating sound is probably your heat shield on your exhaust,as you rev the engine the vibration is amplified and may be tripping your knock sensor, try removing the heat shield and see what happens.

Mitsubishi idling problem!!??

Am not shure the kind of engin you really have but see if your stepping mottor is damage or need relpacing. that problem can happen if you have a faulty unit . it also called the step up unit or sensor, if your car have air condition is turned on and the rpm goes up and down that can be the problem , the unit can be found attached to the throttle body. just below.

Engine high rev at stop and slowly goes to idle speed.

I've got Hyundai Lantra 1.6 year 2000. It's take time to start when it's hot. When I start my car it revs at about 2k-3k rpm. It also does it when I come to a stop. When I come to a stop it will stay at a higher rpm than that of idle speed. It drives ok when on freeway but uses more petrol. I have changed the water & petrol pump but no luck

Transmission slipping

What you need is a "revolution sensor" I had the same exact problem. Replaced the sensor and everything is fine
