RTM yet,
what is loredo.
what jeep model, cherokee?
my guess its a Cherokee Laredo. 1988
with a 4.0L inline six engine, and the horrid French Renix EFI injection system. (had 2 , i did, hug mileage packed up.)
this jeep books are hard to find, sold mine, from 1988 .
the ignition switch is not hard.
the early XJ jeep by AMC (of Rambler fame)

1993 xj book is free, and not rare like 88s
i call it behind the 8 ball.
read chapter 19- page 50
on XJ 93

i think the 88s the switch is x10 more easy
and more easy to steal.(thus the change)
ive posted answers here on this car, before with same year
and same exact question.

ever use google on the rare, its about all there is...
its in plain site if you look, not buried like 93s

There are four (sometimes two) bolts that hold the steering column to the dash. remove them & column will come down to let you get in there.
follow instruction sheet with switch. if you don't get it centered correctly it wont work correctly.

SOURCE: removed switch how do i remove cylinder

Roll the key back to the lock position and push the roll pin in. When you go back together, rolling the key forward pushes the roll pin back out to lock it in place.

SOURCE: How to replace the ignition in a 1988 Jeep

First thing you need to do is determine if the problem is in the key lock or the switch. Switch is located above the steering column connected to the lock by a rod. Instructions for adjustment/install are usually in the box with the new switch. If key lock is bad, you need to disassemble the upper column under the steering wheel...Instructions can be found in either chiltons or haynes. (book is useful for many other things and a worthwhile investment at around $20.)

1988 jeep won't start

Not sure if I read your post right, but you have to have a hot wire to the ignition switch from the battery, independent of anything else on the car, before the switch will work.
The CPS is a common problem on the jeeps, though. If bad, you may not get a coil signal.
