SOURCE: how to remove the ignition switch in a 1993 Jeep Cherokee?
you need to remove steering wheel and you will see how its done once you get inside
SOURCE: 1988 Wrangler Ignition Switch Removal
There are four (sometimes two) bolts that hold the steering column to the dash. remove them & column will come down to let you get in there.
follow instruction sheet with switch. if you don't get it centered correctly it wont work correctly.

Roll the key back to the lock position and push the roll pin in. When you go back together, rolling the key forward pushes the roll pin back out to lock it in place.

First thing you need to do is determine if the problem is in the key lock or the switch. Switch is located above the steering column connected to the lock by a rod. Instructions for adjustment/install are usually in the box with the new switch. If key lock is bad, you need to disassemble the upper column under the steering wheel...Instructions can be found in either chiltons or haynes. (book is useful for many other things and a worthwhile investment at around $20.)
