This will show you the diagram of where it is located...auto parts stores carry this part too so don't think that the price you see there is final. Hope this helps you
Changing knock sensors on 2001 GMC 1500hd 1. Remove the intake manifold. 2. There are 2 sensors located on a plate under the intake manifold. These are the knock sensors. 3. Remove the wiring harness assembly from the knock sensor. 4. Install the new rear bank knock sensor and tighten to 15 lb ft.

bank one is the left side if your standing in front of the car and facing the hood...and bank one is always where the 1st cylinder is located....so bank two is located on right...if your standing in front of the car..if its superchraged the knock sensor is located on the plenum of the black and has to be tightened 24 nm of torque or 32lbs ft. you will have to remove the supercharger and the throttle body and egr vavle etc...to get to it.And if you have a natural aspirated engine the its also one the plenum of the block about half way don the engine...if you need a pic of the location let me know...
Hello,
I assume you are wanting to know how to replace the knock sensors?
This vehicle has two knock sensors and they are located under the intake in valley of engine.
you will need to remove intake to gain access. This will be done by disconnecting injector wiring various sensor wires and moving harness over. Remove fuel lines at injector fuel rail. loosen intake bolts and remove intake. there will be some hoses and air intake etc you will have to remove before removing intake. Once intake is off you will see two rubber plugs with wires coming out this is where knocke sensors are pull plugs up and squeeze the connector to release it from knock sensor. Most likely you will find one with moisture in it this will need to be cleaned out.Replace both sensors since you are there if sensor harness looks damaged or connectors corroded replace it as well.Gm recommends after rplacement clean around the plugs and make a U shaped dam around them with RTV sealer. this will make any water deflect around the holes. Being that this is an 04 replace the intake gaskets They say you can reuse them but I dont trust that unless it is a new vehicle. Thanks for choosing us let me know if i can assist you further with this or in the future.
As far as there being no knock sensor on a 99 2.2 I beg to differ. I have a 99 legacy and just had a diagnostic done and mine is bad. If there is no knock sensor why would it say it was bad and why does Auto Zone, Advanced Auto and my local Subaru dealer sell them. Mine is located under the throttel body and they are rather hard to get to. No offence to who ever said ther is no knock sensor but maby you should recheck your information becuse I know there is a knock sensor since I just changed mine.
They are located below the intake manifold, you may have to remove the intake to change them. The sensors may be shot, they have a problem with water puddling in their mounting wells, after changing, seal the sensors with an RTV to keep water out of the wells
The Knock Sensor (KS) system detects engine pre-detonation. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) retards the spark timing based on the signals from the knock sensors. The knock sensors produce an AC voltage when specific frequencies are detected. The knock sensor voltages are an input to the PCM. The amount of AC voltage produced is proportional to the intensity of the knock.
When you ****** timing fuel mileage goes down.
