How do you fix the gas gauge? It won't read anything and it looks like it's on empty!

Yes, it's in the gas tank, attached to the fuel pump/sending unit assembly.

I think its time to change your sending unit in the tank,not sending a signal to the gauge

Looks like the sensor inside the gas tank is shot! It will need to be replaced. The tank needs to be removed to pull out the sensor and replace it....the empty light will work normally after that!

Gas gauge might need ajustment or re-placed. Won't hurt to get it checked out. Don't want to get stuck some where with no gas. Hope this helps.

when the tank is full the resistance is low so the power through the gage make is read full
as the tank empties , the resistance increases so the less current means the gauge reads less until empty there is little or no power , the gauge reads empty
simple check , turn the ignition off, no power , no gauge reading

2005 PT cruiser, i replaced the cam sensor with a aft market sensor my fuel gauge started reading wrong, and it didn't fix my problem so i replaced the cam sensor with a factory sensor it fix my running problem but the fuel gauge still reads wrong, with a full tank of gas the gauge reads 3/4 tank,

The sending unit in the gas tank must be replaced it may be possible to gain access through the back storage compartment by lifting up the rug look for an access panel with a couple of screws holding the plate on remove it and you should be able to look down through and see the gas tank and a couple wires going to the sendind unit unscrew the screw remove and replace if access plate is not there then it is possible the gas tank must be removed to do the job purchase a Haynes repair manual.

u need to change this gauge or try to dissasseble and clean it very well then try to install it back again
