Dealer only to program the keys ,unless you have the fancy software and not program the key fob ,you need all the keys to be programmed and the computer with the OBDII interface and the correct software ,

1996 Ford F250 460 engine. What is going on?? I'm stumped.....

it could be a problem ECM unit or a corrupt CPU program that is upsetting the immobilizer
try using a scan tool to reset the ECM
try using a known good ecm to replace the unit for a test

Will not start

Hey Sidney. On G6 it has a pass lock anti theft- in which your key is programmed into the computer. If the key is not programmed into the computer or ECM, then nothing at all, heres the steps, and where it says a new cut key on 1, ignore that, just use your key, and also you will need to take your g6 into the dealership and have them reflash the ECM, and program the VIN number into your new ECM, if not it might throw the check engine light.

1. Insert a new cut key in ignition and turn key to the ON position for
10 minutes and 30 seconds.

2. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for
10 minutes and 30 seconds. 3. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for
10 minutes and 30 seconds.

4. Turn key OFF then back ON. The key is now programmed.
Start vehicle to test key.

I did something potentially really stupid - drilled a hole through my key (to hang it because the clip busted) Now, the car will not start, I understand this to be the immobilizer. The car starts but...

You would have to replace the ECM at a minimum and most likely the ECM and the Ignition. You should still be able to get keys for the vehicle with the chip installed but you would have to get them from the dealer. The immobilzer, in order to be of any use, would have to be incorporated into the ECM unit.
