I tried the DIY service and repair manuals from a website and it actually helped
me repair transmission problem in my ford explorer. it wont move forward or reverse, engine is good both solenoids for forward and reverse work.
I don't have much technical knowledge but I just followed it step-wise, and works perfect! got it from www.reliable-store.com
A similar type of thinking goes into diagnosing car trouble. ... response issue, but after shifting into gear the engine's RPMs will surge, but the car won't move ..... Can anyone please explain why my car cant go in reverse but can drive forward
It could possibly be loose linkage where it connects to the transmission. Block the wheels on the passenger side and jack up the driver side of the car, putting jack stands under the front and back.Using a flashlight or drop light, inspect the linkage for loose connections or bent arms. If nothing found, try to manually move the linkage at the transmission. There is a possibility of bent or broken linkage inside the transmission, but that is an involved repair best suited for a shop.
Usually in most cases when a transmission wont go in reverse, is not good. I would try to have the transmission fluid and filter replaced. That might fix it and save you a few hundred dollars. If it does not help, then you are going to ned to take your car and have the transmission fixed.
It can be issue with gears or problem with transmission and needs to be rebuilt. Also get the tranny fluid checked. If it\'s low, then such problems occurs.
