Put new starter on car and finally got car to start but it chugs spits and sputters really bad. Car had ran fine til it ran out of gas a week ago. Put gas in it and it ran ok for couple more days and then it died and when i started it i had to keep pumping accelerator to keep from dying then when i put it in drive it died and continued this behavior until it just quit turning over. Thought it was slush off bottom of gas take clogging fuel filter so put gas treatment and heet in gas tank it still just went click click click when trying to start so then put new starter in and now it will start but dont want to stay running cause it chugs spits sputters so bad. What could possibly be wrong?

Hi! I had the same problem with my 88 2.8 Ltr. Had dirty fuel Injectors. Put in fuel Inj. cleaner in gas tank, after a couple of days, runs like a dream,no more problems. Give it a try. Take care,Leo B. [email protected]

Keep it simple and replace the fuel filter first, if thr fiiler has not been replaced within 30,000 miles or 1 year. Then it's a good chance that it's going to be the fuel filter.

Also, when you have the dog house off, remove the distributor cap and check for moisture.

You need to put a fuel pressure tester in the fuel rail and then determine weather or not you need the fuel pump replaced,if this is not the case then the throttle position sensor is likely the culprit.
