Re: burning plastic smell when cold out run heater and...
Are you loosing radiator fluid. sometimes the heater core will rupture and you will smell burn odor. also check for strange rubbing sounds or screeching coming from the blower fan motor. or engine exhaust manifolds are hot when car is on, make sure nothing is leaning on them which will cause a burn odor. Any odor coming from outside will find it's way inside through the fresh air vents.

Is it a bad smell or a sweet like maple syrup smell. If its sweet you got a coolant leak probably heater core. Bad smell possible causes burning something up. I would run some water in the in the air intake below your wipers just to see if it changes. Not much but a little. Better or worse in cold tempers. Hwo about when the car first start or has run awhile does the smell get better or worse. More feed back please.
your heater core is definitley leaking and your blower is pushing the vapor into the cabin. It will only get worse. You can minimize the smell by not running your heater or defroster, but you wont prevent the coolant from leaking and potentially getting worse. Sorry to say, the core will need pulled and repaired or replaced. Sometimes stop leak additives will solve the problem if its not too severe. I have never been a fan of them, its only a band aid in my view. also if u got pets afoid leeting they smell the antifreeze very toxic can kill pets easily. hope this helps. rate above 4* cheers
you have a pinhole in the heater core that is inside the car at the firewall, when its cold there is no pressure on the core, when it is running theres pressure on it,also the metal expands and the pinhole increases in size due to heat from running and these two issues lead to your smelling antifreeze when warm,a lot of times the passenger side floor carpet will be wet from antifreeze too,its only going to get worse, and don't waste your time with sealers,it will only plug up the rest of the system, especially the newer smaller tubed radiators, just have it replaced,if your good with wrenches and have a lot of patience you can replace it yourself, but a lot of the lower dash needs to come out to do so to replace the heater core
