Jamie, Is or was engine light on, are there any codes, was there any recent work done? The more info. the easier to help diagnose.
Removing the oil fill cap and have a helper crank the engine, while you look for cam movement,if you have cam movement that's good.
Next squirt some starter fluid in throttle body and try starting, try a couple times. If starts and revs fine while running on starter fluid, problem is a faulty fuel pump filter, fuse, relay or pump.
If it spits sputters or backfire while trying to start, timing belt has slipped probably and needs replaced.

Lots of reasons, i can list over 50 ,
are you asking how to guess,?
or how to do 1 to 10 test and find the truth.
do say?

esteem G16b engine. (single belt cam)
or
Esteem J18 engine (twin cam, chain cam)
the 2 engines, are apples and oranges different.

lost all power,
engine power, i can guess
but did it lose all electrical power too, like dash and headlights go dead.

so it wont start ! got that...
but does it crank, we need to know if it cranks or the starter is silent.????

lacking these facts id be a fool to guess.

My suzuki grand vitara ddis diesel 2008 lost power and a zigzag light appeared but the next day it was ok the garage did not find any fault codes

tool late now.
you'd need to drive with scan tool attached then see what code
set (DTC) at failure.
can be lots of things.
bad fuel, partial clogged filter.
injector clogs. and other sensors errors.
and others, this is common rail injection system, right?
get a scan tool, and have it always ready. for fails.

2002 suzuki esteem manual trasmission will overheat after driving 30 minutes and sudddently shifting gear due to a red light or traffic. so far i have replaced the radiator, radiator cap, and thermostat....

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Only one thing can cause this and that is a worn water pump. If the water pump is worn out or faulty the coolant will not circulate properly which can cause overheating even at low speed. Have it replaced and you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using Fixya! Have a good one!

Starter Problem

The common cause of no start is the solenoid switch wire. Try to look for it. It maybe just pulled out when you drive into deep water.

1998 Suzuki Esteem lost pressure and died while driving. Since then have changed battery, fuel pump and filter, and plugs. Was told plugs may not be of high enough quality to fire hot enough (?) or bad...

I am having the same problem. The garage suggested the crankshaft sensor but its an expensive part and if it doesn't work I am stuck with it. Did you get yours figured out?
