ABS & Traction control light are on, what is causing this?

How this system works: Traction control uses wheel speed sensors to detect when one or more of the car's wheels lose grip and traction. When the system registers a loss of traction in one or more of the wheels, a computer will limit power to the wheels that are still in solid contact with the road to prevent a skid. Common reasons for this to happen:

• ABS is malfunctioning: Traction control and ABS (anti-lock braking system) often share the same control module and internal self-diagnostics system. As a result, sometimes an issue in the ABS can trigger the traction control light. If this is the case, then both the ABS and Traction Control lights will be on.
• Broken wheel speed sensors: Wheel speed sensors are usually in the wheel bearing assembly, and determine the rate at which each wheel is moving. The sensors relay that information to the traction control module, which determines whether or not power needs to be shifted. The traction control works off the ABS system You will need a scan tool capable of reading ABS codes before you can further diagnose the problem If you are able to retrive the abs codes searrch on the internet for the trouble code Many times it is a wheel sensor or bad connection on the sensors .

well while putting the car on the lift, traction control does not need to be disabled, and will not cause the abs/traction light to illuminate, these cars are known to have terrible wheel speed sensors that are brittle and tend to brake or malfunction for no apperent reason, and the wheel speed sensors are what control your abs and traction conrol units and they are normally what make the light come on on your dash, the warranty on the sensors was prolonged for that reason, so depending on the mileage of your car they might be covered, hope this helps

It is very common for all of these lights to come on all at the same time. They are all related to your Antilock Brake and Traction control system. ABS = Antilock Brake System, TRAC OFF = the traction control system is disabled - either because there is a malfunction in the ABS system or you have turned off the traction control button. VSC = Vehicle Skid Control. - (which uses the ABS and the Traction Control to function.)

The most common cause of these lights coming on is one or more defective wheel speed sensors. Although there are many other possible causes as well. Your ABS and Traction Control system must be scanned for fault codes to diagnose the problem. If you had damage to your wheels/axles during your "fender bender" this may have something to do with it. with traction control set up cars abs and tranction control sensors are in the wheel bearings when a wheel bearing goes out grinding will come from front wheels and will ruin abs and traction control sensors causing the malfunction. Most likely by your description this will be it.

Start with the basics check fuse #29 it should be a 15 amp fuse. Lets start with the basics. Let me know how that goes.

An ABS sensor DOES affect the traction control system. Traction control uses these sensors to determine if a wheel is losing traction. A bad sensor will cause both the ABS and TRACTION lights to come on.
The CHECK ENGINE light however is going to be a seperate problem.
