What makes you think the computer is at fault ? Check power an grounds first , do you know what these are ? Go on youtube an check out videos on voltage drop testing .Also videos on basic electrical trouble shooting . How to read a wiring diagram . Then go to http://bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams ! Test the main power an grounds , then have the vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Not just the PCM - engine computer but also the GEM - generic electronic module ,fords BCM . Also check battery an connections . You more then likely have a bad or corroded ground connection . Anti-theft system light on .

Also check out videos on basic automotive electrical trouble shooting , how to read a wiring diagram . You can find free wiring diagrams at http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html then test the vehicle electrical circuits . If your anti-theft system light ( symbol of car an padlock ) is on then your anti-theft system is at fault .

If the theft light isn't on it's not anti-theft system problem . What make , model an year vehicle ? Check starter relay . Go to http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams . After entering vehicle info click on engine in system , then in subsystem click starting . If you don't know about automotive electrical systems ,I suggest you check out some videos on youtube on basic electrical trouble shooting , how to read a wiring diagram an voltage drop testing .Also go to Autoshop101 Automotive Technical Articles , learn circuit types - series , parallel , an series parallel , how to test electrical circuits .

Very 1.6 tai was running fine stopped and then would not start. No click for ignition but all power lights come on. Could it be anything to do with key. Have changed starter motor nothing

It could be the ignition switch , could have a bad starter relay , could have a problem with the anti-theft system ,if it has one . Rather then guessing an just replacing parts , find a wiring diagram an see what all is involved in the starting circuit . Go to you tube an watch a few different videos on no crank - no start . Also watch a few videos on basic electrical trouble shooting , voltage drop testing .

My car thinks it is being stolen 2008 Ford Fusion anti theft has disabled ignition. Tried disconnecting the battery; remote entry with ikt; using key to unlock; hit panic button and turned it off with...

Hi Eileen , How do you know your having a anti-theft system problem ? Any lights flashing when you try to crank the vehicle ? The engine does not crank over ? If it is a anti-theft system problem ,disconnecting the battery is not going to do anything except lose some learned setting's in some control modules . There are a few thing's you can check but if none of these are the problem your going to have to have it towed to the dealer ! It'll need to be checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes !
PATS disables the vehicle from starting if there is:
  • a damaged PATS key.
  • a non-programmed PATS key.
  • a non-PATS key (key has no electronics).
  • damaged wiring.
  • a damaged transceiver.
  • a damaged instrument cluster.
Inspection and Verification
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  1. Visually inspect the following for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

Visual Inspection Chart Mechanical Electrical
  • Large metallic objects, a second passive anti-theft system (PATS) key on the same key ring as the PATS key, or electronic devices on the key ring that can be used to purchase gasoline or similar items
  • Ignition lock cylinder
  • PATS key
  • Use of a non-PATS key or incorrect PATS key
  • More than one PATS key on key ring
  • Remote start system installed
  • Smart junction box (SJB) fuse(s):
    • 13 (7.5A)
    • 23 (7.5A)
    • 26 (7.5A)
  • Circuitry
  • PATS transceiver
  • Ignition switch
  • Instrument cluster
You may not know where some of these things are located !

My daughter-in-law went to start the car, nothing happened when thekey was turned to start. I tried it, it started ok,immediately. I shut it off, tried another set of keys, first time nothing, second time...

Anti-theft light on ( car an padlock symbol ) when trying to start the vehicle with the second set of key's ? Do you know how GM anti-theft system works ? There is a transponder in the head of the key . Around the key lock cylinder is a coil of wire ,when you stick the key into the lock cylinder ,this coil of wire energizes the transponder in the key head . A module the coil of wire is hooked to reads code of the tansponder . Everything is controlled by a module , BCM - body control module , PCM -engine computer , anti-theft module . You can research all you want ,you won't be able to trouble shoot without factory or professional type scan tool , service information , checking diagnostic trouble codes . Your buick has more computer power then the space shuttle has . Serial data communication networks . Your best bet , take it to the buick dealer .

first access the ignition switch through the center part of the dash where the radio and climate control are. then locate a thin yellow wire attached to the ignition switch. start your car. then cut the wire. varify the car starts again then tape up the wire you cut put everything back together and there you go.

Anti theft malfunction

Heres the skinny....the wire around the ignition switch is actually an antennea for your anti theft transponder system. the other two wires work in conjuction with the anti theft system in that it supplies power to the ignition switch itself when your key is inserted into the ignition. Inside your key is a chip which emits a certain frequency known only to your vehicle.....when this key is near the ignition switch (ie going to start the car) the antenna senses the frequency and the anti theft system powers down and powers up the ignition so you can start your vehicle. Thanks for using fixya! Any more questions shoot me a email!

Sincerely,

JC

Car starts then stalls due to the anti theft system need info on reset

you should be able to use the key to unlock the driver door or the back hatch and that should disable the anti theft.
