SOURCE: 99 dodge ram 3500 5.9 turbo diesel fuel problem

It is my understanding that the fuel lft pump has been replaced( updated) and is now gone back to the old way and is re installed in the tank.

I have had to put 3 lift pumps in since new, little did I know but Cummins tells me that the lift pump delivers minimal pressure and shortens the life of your injector pump.

So if that is true perhaps it is best to eliminate the lift pump and go with the new in tank pump. I plan on doing it the next time I have a problem.

SOURCE: my fuel gauge was not

YES THERE IS A FUEL PUMP FUSE IN THE FUSE PANEL. I THINK HE MAY HAVE JUMPED A HOT WIRE AND GROUNDED IT INSTEAD OF A GROUND WIRE. HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK.

SOURCE: 1999 dodge ram 3500 cummings turbo diesel will not start.

Diesel engines fire on compression alone (usually 400psi).The Truck may have air trapped in the fuel system. When you perform any fuel system repair on a diesel it is going to take alot of cranking to get the air out. You can take the breather loose and shoot a VERY small amount of starter fluid in the intake and it should start. Do not use starting fluid much as it can damage the engine. Good Luck.

SOURCE: 91 ford ranger...fuel pump will not run pump is good

It won't hurt to jump sire to drive, It is designed to pump all time when the engine is running. The only problem is the pump should not be on if engine is not running since it is designed that way to prevent a fire while pump continues on once engine is stops in a car accident. There is a control device to immobilize the fuel pump, if there is no speed sensor signal from the crankshaft. This needs to be located and fixed.

No power to fuel pump

hi darlene.
this is all i could find.
Sounds like you might have an electrical issue. If all 4 wires on the relay had power, there is something wrong with the wiring. The relay wires should have ground on two wires, power on one wire and switched power on another wire. ... The wire coming from the fuel pump is the other ground wire.3 Feb 2016

Isai RodriguezAutomotive Mechanic23 years of experienceTHANK ISAISounds like you might have an electrical issue. If all 4 wires on the relay had power, there is something wrong with the wiring. The relay wires should have ground on two wires, power on one wire and switched power on another wire. To activate the fuel pump the computer actually connects one of the ground wires to complete the circuit and send power to the fuel pump. The wire coming from the fuel pump is the other ground wire. Electrical wiring issues can be a nightmare if you don't have the appropriate wiring diagrams to see which wires go to where. A mechanic, such as one from YourMechanic, will have access to the proper schematics to help you
or go to this link and see if it helps you out some more.

Fuel pump relay overheating..tried new fuel pump, relay, repair engine ground..believe it is a loose ground from relay to somewhere, can't find location of ground

The relay grounds are the fuel pump and the ECM. If it over heats, it's because the pump is pulling to many amps. Replace the hot wire to the pump and the ground wire from the pump. One or both will solve your problem.

2001 chevy blazer replaced fuel pump with fuel pick up switch and fues guage still does not work

THERE SHOULD BE 3 WIRES, FROM PUMP/SENDER UNIT, 1 WIRE FOR PUMP POWER, 1 WIRE FOR GROUND, & 1 WIRE FOR FUEL GAGE, THE FUEL GAGE WIRE GOES DIRECTLY TO GAGE , INSPECT THIS WIRE , MAY CHANGE COLOR ON ITS WAY TO GAGE, WIRE MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED UNDER TRUCK, ALONG FRAME RAIL, OR HAS BECOME CORRODED, A BUMP IN THE WIRE INSULATION(CORROSION), ALSO, CHECK ALL GROUNDS, REPEAT, ALL GROUNDS TO FUEL PUMP CICUIT, EVEN IF THEY LOOK OK, THEY COULD BE BAD GROUNDS, YOU NEED GOOD GROUNDS TO COMPLETE ANY CIRCUIT !!! 2001 TRUCK, I'D QUESTION YOURS !!!!! WHAT SHAPE WAS YOUR WIRE HARNESS @ PUMP, THEY GO BAD, ANYTHING UNDER THE TRUCK !!!!!! STAY IN YOUCH, LIKE TO KNOW OUTCOME !

2001 s10, fuel pump would not come on. i replaced with new one, fuel pump still wont come on. what is next

I ran into the same problem and solved it. To replace the fuel pump I had to remove the bed since the fuel tank is under it. I had to disconnect the tail light wires including the ground wires. One side had 1 grounding wire and the other had 2 grounding wires. After a month of messing around with fuses and sensors I found out that one of the (Two ground wires) next to the left tail light was actually the (Fuel pump ground wire). So if you don't know which one I am talking about, make sure you connect ALL the tail light wires and plugs before cranking up the engine. This was my luck with the s10 2001 and good luck to you :)

Fuel Pump wiring

If I understand right, I would say the normal ground for the pump is bad.
"I am guessing the pump uses a ground source to start." well, just the normal ground like for any motor, you have the power wire (gray) to the pump, then the ground wire for pump, does it branch off near the tank and find a ground? Or does it go into the tank connector and then routed back somewhere through the wiring harness? Anyway, it has to go to ground somewhere. You have the wiring right it sounds,. just make a good ground source, or find the original ground and repair it.

Burnt ground wire on fuel pump

Burnt ground wire can be caused by loose ground fitting (not screwed in tight to the frame or body). Ground wire too small or ground wire connected to an anti-theft alarm system which use small wire, 10 gauge wire should be used on fuel pump ground.
If you have a lot of miles on your car, use a 5-40 synthetic oil, this will help oil comsumption.
