most newer vehicles have transmission control modules,that go to a default of 2nd or 3rd gear when they go bad! I had a 91 plymouth stuck in 3rd gear because of this module! could be your problem! when mine went out, it smelled like something electrical burned inside the the passenger cabin! I would check all the electrical connections on the transmission first good luck

the neutral safty switch tells the comp. what gear is in. when its not working the light wont move and the car will not go threw the gears prop. the switch is nown to go out. it is located on the tranny or down under the shifter

the vehicle may have a electrical problem and or mechanical problem in the trans....id try replaceing the solenoids and then the entire transmision and torque converter.

Staring in 2nd gear either the PRNDL is out of alignment and/or position sensor switch if off alignment 2nd gear indicator on you car is now neutral. look along gear selector cable its not attach to the transmission correctly
