Ford Bronco or Explorer? They discontinued the Bronco in 1996. Is it stuck in 4 high or 4 low? Do you have a manual shifter or a push button? If you have an automatic electric system you may have a bad transfer case motor or switch. If you have the manual system, make sure that the shifting levers are free and not damaged or restricted from moving. Try rocking from forward to reverse while trying to shift out of 4x4.
90 Ford Bronco II: You have to put it in whichever gear you want it in before you start it or it wont shift at all. Then once you are going its extremely hard to shift into the other gears. Reverse is the only gear that sounds like its grinding.
sounds like the cable from the gear stick to the gearbox selector switch has been put on wrong ,put the car into reverse so that the reverse light is on , turn the ignition off and find the gear selector on the gearbox , pop the end of the cable off it then put the gearstick into the "R" position and refit the end of the cable back onto the selector switch , hope this helps
Their is a reverse light switch on the top of the gearbox or the front of the gearbox which depends on which make of gearbox you have one german and one english if i remember rightly ,pull the connection plug off the top of the cwitch and push a paper clip between the two contacts ,turn ignition on and if the reverse lights light up you know the problem .simple
Look on the transmission and there is a sensor that hooks to the reverse lights and is threaded into the transmission. First check the bulbs and then check the fuse to the reverse lights and then the actual switch on the tranny.
