SOURCE: change drivers side door panel on 94 chevy p.u.

unscrew the inside handle and pop of the window arm....then slowly work your way around the panel poping loose the plastic rivits on the inside edge...lift panel upwards to unhang it from window lip...thats the plastic panel...the metal panel inside that is pretty self explanitory..unscrew and take off the clips holding the controle arms to it and remove...do use caution as parts are very sharp and will slice your fingers and hands.

It should fit, just make sure you have the right year 4L60E and change the boost valve rating. Too low of a boost valve will cause you to burn up your transmission when it's making gear changes a good boost valve for your Silverado is a 0.490" or a 0.500" boost valve like the ones in a Corvette or Camaro to take the extra stress of HP and tq the 5.7 has above the 4.3 liter engine.
The key distinction of the Later 4L60-E (1997-2006) from the Early 4L60-E (1992-1997) is the six-bolt "hex" rear output or tailhousing / adapter pattern. The previous versions featured a four-bolt square bolt pattern at the adapter or tail-housing. Additionally, the removeable bellhousing is also another distinguishing feature.
Two-wheel-drive versions have tailhousings and typically a longer output shafts than four-wheel-drive versions, which have various adapter assemblies and a shorter output shaft. 4L60-E is found in nearly every GM rear-wheel-drive application, including the C/K Truck, Sonoma, Jimmy, Tahoe, Yukon, Astro, Safari, Suburban, Bravada, Firebird, Camaro and Corvette.
The 4L60E is now concurrently produced along with its strengthened progenitors; the 4L65-E and the 4L70-E. They share most components and improvements together. The 4L65-E was introduced in 2001 as an HD version of the 4L60-E. It has a stronger planetary and a strength-improved output shaft.
4L70-E transmission is a further improvement still, and share most components. However, these versions have strengthened and improved components for the significant power outputs of GM's impressive line of Gen III + engines.
Good luck and you have a 4L60E transmission, thank you for using Fixya

Put a line pressure gauge ($55 shipped on Ebay, or visit a local trans shop) on the pressure test port and go for a drive to verify proper line pressure. Base pressure at idle in P,N,OD should be around 70psi and around 140psi in R. Max line pressure should be at least 190psi at WOT in 1st or 2nd, 225psi is optimum. If base pressure is low, trans or pump is worn out. If max pressure is low, check EPC solenoid. If reverse is slow to engage, and line pressure does not come up to at least 130psi in reverse, replace the boost valve with a Transgo 0.490" boost valve (easy fix in pan).

Slow, slipping or no reverse: "lo-reverse" clutches are worn out, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit, or broken sunshell. It is possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from its cage in the case in the rear of the trans may help (must remove valvebody), or adding a high-viscosity additive such as Lucas Transmission additive or other seal restorer product. May also have worn boost valve (can replace in the pan)

From what you have described, it may just be a broken Sunshell which is the weak point to the 4L60E transmission. Gm had a upgraded program to lower the transmission line pressure when revers is engaged to keep the Sunshell from breaking when put in to revers.

Thank you for using Fixya and keep us posted

Can a 94 chevy cheyenne transmission interchange with a 97 chevy silverado tranmission

Will it physically fit? yes. Will it be a direct replacement any everything hook right up and plug right in? If we are talking about an automatic then no. 1994's wiring was completely different than the 1997. Can it be made to work? possible, but I believe it would be more trouble trying to make it work than if the correct transmission were located and installed. If it is a cost issue where he has a good trans out of a 1994 he might see if a salvage yard will do some partial trading for the correct trans.

1997 silverado installed used trans n speed senser plug is diferent and now it wont down shift

If you have adifferent plug for the speed sensor then you probaly have the wrong year model transmission.Even though 93 through 97 look similar they do not interchange.Your speed sensor should be on the passenger side of tail housing,That is the 1995 up design. If you have a trans with the speed sensor on the drivers side of tail housing then you have a 93 to 94 design.93 and 94 were non-pwm units with 5 solenoids.95 was a pwm unit with 6 solenoids with low impediance pwm solenoid.96 and up are pwm units with 6 solenoids and high impediance pwm solenoid.Swapping these units can blow computers. It is probaly stuck in third gear because the fuse is blown or because of open vss circuit. You will not be able to make this transmission work.

Is it true that in a 1996 chevy tahoe 4x4 u can't convert the transmission with another year model like the rest of the1997s. The dealer told me with the 96 4x4 has to be replace with another 96. but 97...

The key distinction of the Later 4L60-E (1997-2006) from the Early 4L60-E (1992-1997) or 4L60 (1990-1992) or 700R4 (1982-1989) is the six-bolt "hex" rear output or tail housing / adapter pattern. The previous versions featured a four-bolt square bolt pattern at the adapter or tail housing. This is where that made the small change and the 96/97 year was a change over year so you may have the newer housing or the older housing, but if your replacing the transfer case with the transmission your good to go, the electronics are the same. Just the body housing is different. Good luck and hope this helps. And why wold you want to convert the transmission, there are lots of easy simple up grades with out dropping the transmission or valve body.

I just put a transmission from a 1994 chevy 1500 onto my 1993 chevy 1500. it fit perfectly but the wiring harness is different. is there an adapter for this application? if so, and i install it will i need...

what color is the inside of the trans connector on the trans itself? I believe the 93/94s were a tan yellowish color. 1995 and up are different and won't work - electronics are different

If they have exactly the same amount of solenoids, you could switch the harnesses.... but it sounds like you have a 95 or newer trans which would have one more solenoid
