There are many running lamps. best name is park
some go front, some go tail, some go side, and some go
to dash. largest run of 1 circuit on car.... park.
then HL switch, 1 click, does dash glow.?
does all side lamps glow, and front and rear.?
check fuses first. as that is always first.
some jeeps have a relay called , PARK.
license plate rear lamp out too>????????????
fuse 6 in JB , junction fuse box is park
as is park relay
the BCM computer, sees you turn the park switch
the BCM the (the brain inside) energizes the PARK relay
and if the fuse is good , all parks glow.
including the lic, plate lamps.

what we do is check battery voltage first.
12.6vd is good, less is bad. i do this with parks on, and key on pocket as parks work all the time.
then check fuse 6
then last scan the PCM
if the PCM reports BCM errors, for park. we'd not IGNORE THAT.
did you?

I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee limited and when I turn my lights on my tails don't work but when I apply the brakes the passenger side comes on. I replaced blubs and sockets.

Had a similar problem in mine. When I applied brakes while head lights were on, the the light would go off completely. There is a computer chip in the tail light assembly that tends to go bad causing the light to malfunction. I just bought a new tail light assembly from eBay and now it works perfectly. As easy as putting in a new bulb but you just have to unplug electric terminal from the light and plug in new light once received.

Brake lights ,tail lights wont work i have replaced fuses, bulbs

Check fuses, I believe that the WJ's (99-04) ran a separate circuit for bake lights. Not sure if they did same for the ZJ's (93-98)

My rear lights on my 99 jeep grand cherokee do not work when I turn the lights on. They work fine when the lights are off. Any idea as to what the cause might be. Any place I can view a wiring diagram...

These Jeeps are notorious for the retainers breaking that hold the circuit board type wiring against the bulb contacts. With my 2000 Grand Cherokee, the brake lights would work when the headlight/tail lights were off. If the lights were on, the rear lights would go out altogether when I pressed the brakes. The easist fix would be replacing the tail light assemblies, but these are not cheap. My fix was to open up the inside cover of the tail light housing and use machine screws in each of the locations that the plastic tabs hold the retainer against the light housing.
