I had a great deal of steam come out of my car twice now (about 3 weeks apart). It doesn't have a smell of anti-freeze, the temp gauge is fine and all fluid levels seem to be the same/full. Function of the car is totally fine. Any ideas what the mystery steam is??
Did the vehicle overheat? Steam is indicative of overpressure. This could be caused from a stuck thermostat or a blown head gasket. Do this with vehicle all the way cool take the radiator cap off. Start it and if any blows out of the radiator the head gasket is blown . If nothing comes out and it's full stick your finger in the fluid. If it gets where it's too hot to touch in a couple of minutes , that also indicates a blown head gasket as exhaust gasses escape into the coolant.
Testimonial: "It did not overheat. It happened for the first time three weeks ago and it's been driving fine since. If it was a stuck thermostat or blown head gasket, I would know there's a problem, right? It's been running completely fine."
