While driving my 2012 Ford Focus it acted like it was in neutral when it was actually in drive I pulled over put it in park and the motor quit and now won't even turn over

There is an internal part called a PARKING PAWL that holds the vehicle in place when it is in park. If you can move it while in park then that pawl is not activating. This is not something you can do yourself without special tools because the transmission needs to come out.

Sounds like the physical movement of the linkage is pulling or rubbing the harness. Get up under the dash and see how the harness is located.

shift cable out of adjustment

could be a selector failure. easiest to check first or internall drama with torqu converter ,one way clutch or other. these will require r@r n overhaul

It can be issue with gears or problem with transmission and needs to be rebuilt. Also get the ****** fluid checked. If it's low, then such problems occurs.

The shifter needs to be inspected. If The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

If you have all the forward gears and it does not pull in neutral then the reverse band is broken or the molded rubber piston that applies the band is bad.Good luck.

don't quite get your questionbut if you simply want to move the vehicle you can manually put in the proper gear by looking under hood, find the shift cable on top of the tranny. pop it off the and count the clicks. one is reverse, two neutral and so on. you can also drive it to a mechanic like this.you will need another person to help unless your park brake works well enough to hold the car when you put it in drive. CAUTION: ONCE REACH YOU REACH DESTINATION REMEMBER TO PUT IT IN PARK FROM UNDER HOOD.

check the linkage from gearstick to gearbox .if ok .check and change transmission fluid
