Easy one. Check for water around the port hole, if it's leaking. It bad and needs to be replaced. I know. I have to replace my wife's water pump in her 2001 dodge caravan as well as a tranny ecm because it shorted out due to water leaking inside the unit. Hope this helps

SOURCE: Changing the water pump on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee V6

WATER PUMP
The water pump is bolted directly to the engine timing chain case/cover.

A gasket is used as a seal between the water pump and timing chain case/cover.

If water pump is replaced because of bearing/shaft damage, or leaking shaft seal, the mechanical cooling fan assembly should also be inspected. Inspect for fatigue cracks, loose blades, or loose rivets that could have resulted from excessive vibration. Replace fan if any of these conditions are found. Also check condition of the thermal viscous fan drive. Refer to Viscous Fan Drive in this group.

The water pump can be removed without discharging the air conditioning system (if equipped)

REMOVAL
Disconnect negative battery cable from battery.
Drain cooling system. Refer to Draining Cooling System in this group.
Do not waste reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse.

The thermal viscous fan drive is attached (threaded) to the water pump hub shaft. Remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from water pump by turning mounting nut counterclockwise as viewed from front. Threads on viscous fan drive are RIGHT HAND. Using special tool spanner wrench 6958 with adapter pins 8346 and a suitable fan wrench loosen the fan drive Viscous Fan and Fan Drive Do not attempt to remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle at this time.
WARNING: CONSTANT TENSION HOSE CLAMPS ARE USED ON MOST COOLING SYSTEM HOSES. WHEN REMOVING OR INSTALLING, USE ONLY TOOLS DESIGNED FOR SERVICING THIS TYPE OF CLAMP, SUCH AS SPECIAL CLAMP TOOL (NUMBER 6094) SNAP-ON CLAMP TOOL (NUMBER HPC-20) MAY BE USED FOR LARGER CLAMPS. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN SERVICING CONSTANT TENSION CLAMPS.

CAUTION: A number or letter is stamped into the tongue of constant tension clamps. If replacement is necessary, use only an original equipment clamp with matching number or letter.

If water pump is being replaced, do not unbolt fan blade assembly from thermal viscous fan drive.
Remove two fan shroud-to-radiator nuts Fan Shroud Mounting Hardware Do not attempt to remove fan shroud at this time.
Remove fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle as a complete unit.
After removing fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly, do not place thermal viscous fan drive in horizontal position. If stored horizontally, silicone fluid in viscous fan drive could drain into its bearing assembly and contaminate lubricant.
Remove accessory drive belt as follows: The drive belt is equipped with a spring loaded automatic belt tensioner. Relax tension from belt by rotating tensioner clockwise (as viewed from front) Automatic Belt Tensioner - When all belt tension has been relaxed, remove accessory drive belt.
Remove lower radiator hose clamp and remove lower hose at water pump.
Remove seven water pump mounting bolts and one stud bolt
CAUTION: Do not pry water pump at timing chain case/cover. The machined surfaces may be damaged resulting in leaks.

Remove water pump and gasket. Discard gasket.
INSTALLATION
Clean gasket mating surfaces.
Using a new gasket, position water pump and install mounting bolts as shown. Water Pump Installation - Tighten water pump mounting bolts to 54 N·m (40 ft. lbs.) torque.
Spin water pump to be sure that pump impeller does not rub against timing chain case/cover.
Connect radiator lower hose to water pump.
Relax tension from belt tensioner Automatic Belt Tensioner - Install drive belt
CAUTION: When installing the serpentine accessory drive belt, belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong direction. Refer to Belt Routing for correct belt routing. Or, refer to the Belt Routing Label located in the engine compartment. The correct belt with correct length must be used.

Position fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly to vehicle as a complete unit.
Be sure the upper and lower portions of the fan shroud are firmly connected. All air must flow through the radiator.
Install two fan shroud-to-radiator nuts Fan Shroud Mounting Hardware
Be sure of at least 25 mm (1.0 inches) between tips of fan blades and fan shroud.
Install fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly to water pump shaft.
Fill cooling system. Refer to Refilling the Cooling System in this group.
Connect negative battery cable.
Start and warm the engine. Check for leaks

IT WONT COME OUT AS THE PUMP & PULLEY HAVE TO COME OUT TOGEATHER. REMOVE 5 WATER PUMP BOLTS AND CAREFULLY WORK WATER PUMP OUT BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND VEHICLE FRAME. CLEAN ALL MATING/GASKET SURFACES AND BOLTS. USING A SMALL AMOUNT OF TACKY SEALENT TO INSURE THE NEW WATER PUMP SEAL STAYS IN PLACE, THE INSTALL IS PRITTY MUCH THE REVERSAL OF REMOVAL.

GOOD LUCK, REMEMBER TO TIGHTEN ALL BOLTS TO MFR SPECS AND BLEED THE AIR OUT OF THE COOLANT AS REQUIRED.

Make sure it's cool, pop the radiator cap, Remove the shield on the passenger side between the tire and front of engine. Relieve the tension on the serp belt, draw yourself a diagram of the pulleys and belt routing in case the sticker is gone on the strut tower, remove the serp belt. Take the bolts out of the pulley on the front of the water pump (3). Remove the lower radiator hose at the front cover to drain the coolant. Remove the 6 mm bolts holding the water pump to the front cover housing. tap on the pump with a rubber hammer. Install a new gasket on the new pump, and a weap hole diverter in the pump (round black about hte size of a quarter), use old one if there's no new one. Install pupm and tighten bolts snug with a 1/4" ratchet. Install pulley and 3 bolts. Install belt, top off radiator with 50/50 mix green coolant. start engine and run to operating temperature, make sure the belt is seated in all of the pulleys and is running true, radiator fans should come on. Shut engine down and let cool overnight. Check level in radiator and overflow bottle, top off as necessary.

Yellow fluid leaking onto serpentine belt

yellow fluid is most likely anti freeze. check the radiator hoses but because of the location, my guess is that it is the water pump leaking. make sure you change the tension pulleys when you change the pump.

How do i change the water pump on a 2000 dodge, grand caravan

Removing and changing the water pump on a 2000 Grand Caravan should only be done if your van has a 3.3 liter or 3.8 liter V6 engine. On any other engine types, including four-cylinder engines, you must remove the timing belt from the engine to access the water pump, which is a dangerous task that can mess up the engine if attempted by an amateur.
The procedure is as follows:------------- The water pump is responsible for sending the engine coolant to the engine.First of all remove the serpentine belt then remove the plastic cove on the passenger side behind the wheel. You will have to remove the pulley. Once the pulley is removed unbolt the water pump and remove it. Clean the surfaces and install new pump. Draining the coolant and replacing it is advisable.
Drain the engine coolant, twisting and removing the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator
-------------------Thats it.

Dodge caravan turns over wont start all lights work

possible bad fuel pump. check fuel pump relay under hood. drivers side fuse panel. swap fuel pump relay with another identical relay to rule out possible bad relay. listen for whining sound back by fuel tank. the fuel pump is in the fuel tank. Another option....you can also check the pressure in the fuel rail, but be careful not to squirt gas in your eyes or face.

Maintenance Costs for a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan

I have a 2000 grand caravan with 234000 miles i have had since new. I have had no major problems with it. My best suggestion is if it acts up get it checked. Do not wait until it breaks it should last a while for you. I plan on driving it until it hits 300000. I average maybe 500 a year on general maintence type things. Between, tires, oil changes and things that have never gone bad so it is a very reliable vehicle. Good luck

2004 Dodge Grand Caravan Water pump

If it's red, it's transmission fluid. Coolant would be green. Check the fluid level, don't let it get low, Chrysler minivans are prone to transmission troubles, and low fluid levels over time will ruin a a transmission. And be sure not to overfill, it's just as bad for the trans. Have the leak checked out and repaired, good luck
