Put new battery and battery light turned on - Cars & Trucks

Make sure the new battery was connected properly red to + and black to -.

It may be that the security system needs resetting as is normal when you disconnect a battery, but having no lights is odd.

The battery light doesn't mean you need a new battery it means that the battery charging system is faulty, that is the alternator and the voltage regulator, the lights are on because the system voltage is low, they will not turn off until the charging system problem is diagnosed and repaired.

Check battery voltage should be around 13 volts if not charge it.

Won't turn over or won't start?

the car is imobalised, try disconectint the earth from battery for 5 mins and reconect, car should start

You had better recheck your connections because the batteries are polarity reversed

HAVE BATTERY RECHARGED OR VECHICLE JUMP START.WITH VECHICLE RUNNING MAKE SURE ALTERNATOR IS CHARGING THE BATTERY.ALTERNATOR OUT PUT AT BATTERY SHOULD BE 13.5 - 14.5 VOLTS.IF NOT CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE.CHECK ALTERNATOR + BATTERY FEED WIRE AND VOLTAGE REGULATOR WIRES MAKE SURE NONE OF WIRES LOOSE BROKEN OR DISCONNECTED.IF ALL IS GOOD AND ALTERNATOR OUT PUT LOW ALTERNATOR FAULTY.IF ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE OUT PUT OKAY. YOUR BATTERY DRAIN PROBLEM COULD BE FAULTY AC HEATER BLOWER MOTOR RELAY.CHECK INSIDE CAR WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF.MAKE SURE RADIO TURN OFF.INTERIOR LIGHTS TURN OFF.HEAD LIGHTS TURN OFF.LISTEN FOR ANY NOISES LIKE BLOWER MOTOR RUNNING, OR FAULTY DOOR LOCK SOLENOID CLICKING NOISE.IF EVERY THING SO FAR OKAY.OTHER POSSIBLE CAUSES BATTERY DRAINING COULD BE FAULTY ALTERNATOR,FAULTY STARTER SOLENOID CONTACTS SHORTING OUT.THE PCM COULD DRAIN BATTERY IF FAULTY.THE NEW BATTERY COULD BE DEFECTIVE.

the battery light indicates an "battery charging problem" something is with the alternator it could be the alternator belt or the alternator itself

Sometimes the new battery is not 100% charged. Put it on a charger or jump start the car, the alternator should then charge up the battery.

does the light stay on all the time, or does it go off after the car is turned off and restarted?
