Why won't it go in reverse?

The Ford has some links to VW systems, like the Galaxy is the same as the VW Sharan. This particular VW I have quoted will not go into reverse if the reversing/backup light is faulty. Check that by checking the bulbs, fuse and switch.

How to change oil on a Freelander Australia 2002 vehicle

THESE TRANSMISSIONS USE SPECIAL OIL.. YOU CANNOT USE REGULAR TRANSMISSION OIL... SINTHETIC OIL AND ITS MORE EXPENSIVE... DRAIN THAT IMMEDIATELY AND REPLACE..YOU COULD HAVE DAMAGED THE ****** BY PUTTING THE WRONG OIL.

I need a diagram of a freelander mk1 transmission

If you need the overhaul book for the automatic transmission for this car, then it would be wise to download it from ATSG or Transtar industries, it costs around 16 US dollars, and has all the info you need. The type of transmission in the car is a Jatco 506E, used also in Jaguar and Mazda.
You could try your local library, but i doubt they would have it, as this is really specialist stuff.
Hope this helps

Noisey freelander

Yes, the rear diff is fcuked. It is a common fault on these models. I have a 1.8 2000 model and have now removed the rear prop. This now gives me a perfectly quiet drive, more mpg and frankly not worth getting fixed unless you really need to have 4wd. It is very common for owners to do this. Apparantly after 2001 threy used different diffs (JATCO) which are more heavy duty and don't wear out as fast!
