Does the vehicle crank over but not start up or does it not crank over at all. No click, no cranking, no nothing? If it is not cranking then check the 50 Amp Maxi fuse in the underhood fuse box. It will be labeled "Starter relay, Ignition Switch" There is a row of 3 50 amp fuses in the box. The one you want is on the left end of row next to the 40 amp Blower motor relay fuse.

Could not find a main fuse in the diagrams I looked at. I would take a test light and go through the underhood fuse blocks and see if they are blown.

Hooked up my new battery backwards, blew the main fuse. It has been replaced and now the meter fuse in the inside fuse box blows within seconds and gage cluster and alternator not working

Could have damaged regulator. When the car is running have you checked the voltage at battery terminals. If battery is charging it should be around 14 volts. If around 12 your charging system is fubar.

Meanwhile if you have to charge the car every day then something in the car is draining the battery, Using an ammeter you need to track it down, Hook it up to battery and pull fuse out one at a time till the drain goes down. That isolates the circuit with the problem.

What happens when you hook a care battery up backwards?

Hello Glen, Bad bad things can happen when you hook up a car battery backwards. If your car has a high quality electrical system it might only blow out one or two main fuses. If not, it can cause havoc on the wiring system and burn out the alternator, computer, sensors, modules, and stereo system to name a few.
