One of the accessory bearings could be going out
(I.E.-alternator,water pump, etc)If the noise is near an idler or tensioner pulley,it could also have a bad bearing. The best thing to do is remove the serpentine belt or release the tensioner pulley so the belt is loose, then you can spin each accessory pulley by hand and listen for the noise. You'll also feel the pulley dragging while you spin it and it might have a ratchety feel to it(in other words,as you're rotating the pulley you'll feel it spin somewhat freely and then it will feel as if its catching on something) If the belt itself is bad,it usually makes a squealing or chirping sound. If your vehicle has a vbelt drive with multiple belts, check the pullies the same way as described above and make sure the belts are all tight.A loose belt normally causes a squealing noise rather than a whining noise.Check your power steering fluid level too because the pump will whine if it gets low on fluid.

i would first check your surpentine belt to see if it is getting burnt up, most whining sounds are an indication of a bad pully either from the alternator, compressor, pwr steering pump, tensioner, idler pully,ect.ect., i would take the belt off and spin the pullys by hand untill you find wich one is bad

2004 pontiac grand prix supercharger make a whining noise power streering is full

Hello
All superchargers get pretty noisy make sure that the supercharger is full small allen head inspection plug next to the supercharger pully, the next thing to do would be to remove the supercharger belt and start it and see if the whinning goes away if it does then it is the supercharger making the noise. I wouldn't rule out any of the other pulleys making the noise remove the other belt and make sure that all of the other pulleys spin freely and make no noise when you spin them by hand.
Good luck

Remove the serpentine belt and run the engine to see if the whine still exists. If the whine is gone, try moving the pullies by hand to feel what pully is rough or has a lot of play. Your issue with the heat is likely separate from the whine. You have air in the cooling system. With the engine cold, remove the radiator cap. Fill the radiator to the top and run the engine until it gets to operating temp. The level in the radiator will drop, this is when you add more coolant and replace the cap. Make sure your overflow/resivoir bottle is half full with coolant.

I have a high pitched noise which appears to be coming from front right engine compartment (as you are looking at the engine) which sounds kind of like a belt that is squealing. It is intermittent. Just...

Could be several things. WHICH ENGINE?.. 4 cylinder (has three belts, power steering/water pump, alternator & A/C compressor, one tensioner pully A/C compressor), The V6 2.7 (has only one belt, 1 Idler pully and 1 tensioner pully), the V6 3.5 has two belts - A/C/alternator, and power steering - there are two tensioner pullys). Noises can be caused by the belt(s) themselves, pullys, bearings, pully bearings, water pump shaft bearings (or belts/pullys rubbing up against something). Let's not forget that there is also belt(s) behind the Timing Belt cover as well as pullys and bearings associated with the timing system. You could start by removing one accy drive belt at a time (alternator, water pump, compressor, power steering, etc) to see whether or not the noise goes away in each case. If after each case, you discover the noise is still there, it's probably behind the timing belt cover (idler/tensioner pully, water pump shaft bearing, crankshaft bearing, etc.). Good Luck
