My 2001 v70 shows hot engine light on col startup. Where is the sending unit on this car? or what else might it be? thanks

Very likely is the sending unit, as you suggest. There are usually separate units for the temperature gauge and the fan switch though. Check YouTube for some videos, e.g.

I have a Volvo 2004 S80 whose blower fan motor stays on, even after the ignition switch has been turned off. What gives? Is this a normal function or should it go off like everything else when you shut it...

Not True. I have a 2004 S60 and a std features is that the blower motor will run from 10 minutes to an hour after the engine has been turned off, This is to dry the evaporator in the dash and avoid musty odors.

If it drains your battery dead there are possible issues; 1) a weak battery that needs replacing or 2) a faulty power stage/transistor unit ont he blower fan.

The transistor unit has power and ground and a digital signal from the control unit. When the transistor sticks, the the blower will not stop when the ignition is turned off.

1999 Volvo S80 T6, Starts blower on its own.

If you are talking about the thermo electric cooling fan, its operation is independent of the car's electical system. It is switched on and off by the engine temperature. When you park, the engine heat soaks upward to heat the thermostat turning the fan on. It will run until the engine cools down and the thermostat switches it off.

I have 2001 Volvo S80 and the heater and AC comes on for a minute or two and then shuts off. The dealer said it was the blower mower burned out. How can that be if it works now and then?

Assuming that the dealer is correct and isolated the problem down to the blow motor...
it IS possible for the motor to work intermittently due to heat buildup. Malfunctions due to heat will call the motor to run fine for a bit, and then quit when the motor reaches a high enough temperature to cause a malfunction. It would then quit working until it cooled back down, and repeat the process.

Whether is it just dead, or it is intermittently dead, for all intensive purposes, the motor is no longer usable and needs to be replaced with a new unit.

2000 Volvo V70 climate control problem - blower remains in high, regardless of AUT 0-High setting. Vent selection and temperature controls work. Any idea?

Most common cause of this problem is a bad climate control power stage. The power stage control the speed of the blower fan on different settings, if it goes bad it defaults to full blast. There is a small chance the climate contro lunit itself is bad but more than 90% of the time, it is the power stage. It is located near the blower fan under the dash in the passenger footwell area. It makes it much easier to remove the glove box and knee bolster as well as the cover panel. It is rectangular in shape about 1.5" x 3" and black.

Heater blower not working

The blower is not the problem
The problem is a faulty final stage resitor located
on the passenger side under the dash.
Very common - easy to replace.

No air or heat blowing from vents

if the fan is blowing this could be a problem with the climate controll switch that changes the direction of air from floor to defrost to vents, some are vacuum controlled through a vacuum operated mechanism that opens and closes a door in the vents which redirects the air to different places.

1993 volvo 850 heater blower works sometime tell me why?

These models had problems with the blower motor power stage, which is what controls the fan speed, and the blower motors wear out. There a good chance it needs both!
