Sounds like transmission problems The lock up torque converter isn't working correctly. The transmission control module may also be the culprit.

It definitely is the transmission. I changed out the filter and 4 quarts of ATF +4. Now I t shifts into reverse and drive with no problem but as soon as I push on the gas it lunges forward but in reverse it does fine

94 dodge caravan

Sounds like a crank sensor or a mass air flow sensor. Take it to an Auto parts store and have them read the trouble code for you. It will tell you what circuit is affected.

Can you tell me if a 97 dodge caravan transmission 3.3 will interchange with a 3.8. This is the trouble i have had and have decided to put in Transmission. Driving down the road and van sounded like it...

1. Yes the 3.3 and the 3.8 are the same bolt pattern. But the gear ratio in the differential might be different.

2. Did you replace the filter and put it back together? Does it do the same thing after you changed the filter? If it was an electrical issue with speed sensors or the solenoid pack, reverse would still work.

2001 Dodge grand caravan sport. Transmission slipping/ jerking. Seems to run only in second gear... still slips and jerks. Smells of burnt trans fluid and the level is low on the dipstick.

I need a little mor info. But the reason for the being stuck in 2nd gear is because when something goes wrong with the tranny. it goes into "LIMP" mode wich keeps the trans. from shifting out of 2nd when you are going forward. It does sound like your trans. is gone out though.

2002 caravan ec, on acceleration, once warmed up, van sputters and loses power. Let up and accelerate slowly and you regain power. Also occaisionally jerks forward at stop light, and will sometines 'grind'...

Sounds like an ignition miss, Probably has an ignition cable arcing, I'd try and scan the computer for codes, you are looking for a PO300,301,302,303,304,305,or306. If you have any of these I'd start with plugs and wires. The grinding in reverse could be the low reverse planetaries, drop the trans pan and inspect for debris/metal on the magnet, if it looks like a chia pet, replace the trans with a reman unit.

Shift in gear won't go , front wheels locked up

Hate to say it but it sounds like your looking at a new or rebuilt transmission. Get a diagnosis anyway, just to be sure I'm not jumping the gun.

My 2000 caravan jerks to the right when it shifts

I would have the transaxle mount on the driver side engine compartment checked. One way to get an idea if it may be shot is to start engine, apply park brake, put transaxle in reverse and with one foot on main brake pedal and other on gas give the gas a quick tap and see if you hear a loud thump which will be the transaxle flexing the trans mount. If the rubber insulator is shot then you'll hear it.
