Firing Order1-2-3-4-5-6. NOTE: This engine is a six-cylinder engine. The cylinder numbers are assigned as 1-3-5 for the right bank and 2-4-6 for the left bank from the front of the engine (timing belt side). Could be 1 of 3 things sparkplug fouled,sparkplug wire or a faulty injector or injector wire connector has a poor connection.Also if this engine has 1 coil per cylinder then the coil for that cylinder could be faulty.
It could be the spark plug wire, or the coil. 2004 model you should have coil over plug (C.O.P) setup. Also check for any signs for arcing around the spark plug boot area and around the coil. Any white or gray lines on the boot area or coil is an indication of arcing. If arcing is happening, the current will take a short cut to ground instead of jumping the gap at your spark plug, thus giving you a "no fire" situation. I also ways recommend replacing spark plugs in a set along with new wires. I don't recommend just changing one.

The shaking and shudder are normal when you are losing half to a third of your cylinders. If you are confident of the cylinders that are to blame, you need to investigate why they are misfiring. The sparkplugs can be bad by now, but were probably good before the spark to them was interrupted.
Your vehicle has a coil on plug system. There are reports of problems on the NHTSA site but no Recalls were issued. You need to change the 2 coils and plugs for those cylinders. The problem will make other components like your PCM fail if it has not already been damaged.
The electrical system in the PCM gets damaged if the spark does not flow to the sparkplugs. The built up power can charge the chassis and knock out delicate small electronics so do not delay in fixing this.
Also the reports I have seen do not show any advantage to replacing all of your coils instead of the damaged 2. If the shuddering continues after the coil/plug change, you probably need the PCM. I know this is not good news but hope my solution is very helpful.
This truck has the 4.6 engine, the sparkplugs are located on the top of the engine in cylinder head, you will need to remove the top cover on the head then you will see the coils, there are six coils remove the bolt holding the coil ,do one cylinder at a time, with bolt removed then disconnect plug to coil then pull coil up and out then theres the sparkplug inside the hole the coil comes out of, do this to all cylinders . hope this helps good luck.
Sparkplugs go down into the engine. You have as many as cylinders you have. Four cylinder, four plugs, six cylinder, six plugs. The plugs carry spark through the wires that hook to your distributor cap. Most caps are located on the right of the engine. That cap hooks to your distributor. So, if you have a four cylinder engine, you have four wires. You should see them crossing the engine block. The plugs are down in the engine block. The wires go into the engine block. Unless you have coils, which look like a small square, it has plugs.
the spark plugs are located under the coil packs they have one or two bolts holding each one in. you have six cylinder so there should be six coil packs three facing you when you pop hood and three more located towards the back. let me know if you have any other questions.
You have a 4.2L inline 6 cylinder, on top of engine you'll see six coil pack's running front to back on top of the motor, disconnect harness on each one remove small bolt's pull all six coil pack's out, spark plug's will be in there.Don't worry you don't have to put the coil pack's back in the same hole.
