Change the oil filter and use diesel engine oil ( same viscosity) to clean out the engine
change the filter around every 1000 miles for the first 10000miles and the oil every 5000 miles as normal ( sooner if you like but no later)
how it works
diesel oils are heavy with detergents and so those detergents ( more so than petrol engine oils) will remove the sludge build up in an engine that collects in the filters hence the more frequent filter change requirement
diesel oil will not harm a petrol engine if you use the save viscosity rating for the oils and if used all the time will keep the engine sludge free
I never believe in using a flushing oil as the viscosity is too low to keep the bearings functioning properly and I have seen engine failures because of the use of flushing oil

How to tune up my 1997 Honda Civic EX

In maintenance work a tune up would include new spark plugs, if is fitted with a distributor then replace the distributor cap and rotor. if your spark plug cables are old (more than 100,000 miles) may be good to replace them. replace air filter abd cabin filter. check the hoses that carry coolant. change oil and filter. It may be a good idea to change the coolant also to change the transmission oil.

What do I do now that my phyco ex girlfriend decided to pour sugar and coffee into my engine via the oil cap.

sugar is hydrocarbon same chemistry as oil and fuel so it will mix in the oil ( make it a bit thicker)
coffee may not dissolve but will be held in suspension in the oil to be removed by the filter
so basically the contamination will go through the pump into the filter to be removed
So at this stage talk to several accredited service shops but I am thinking that drain the sump, change the filter
run the engine until hot then change the oil and filter again
collect a sample of the oil in a glass jar and look for contamination in the oil--it should be the same new color oil with no visible bits floating around
Maybe a second run till hot then again change the oil and filter
after that a filter change at say 1500 miles or a week to make sure that the filter is not blocking up
I feel that because it has not been run long that a flushing process using the grade of oil recommended along with frequent filter changes will most probably be the cheapest way to fix along with moving well away from the ex
