2003 Hyundai Elantra won't start, but has power. Trying to put car from park to neutral.

Is it possible that the battery isn't fully charged? The interlock is electro-mechanical. Turning the ignition on and putting for foot on the brake should release the shifter lock as you said.

For starting issues you need to connect a scan tool and check for DTCs.

No sound when turning on engine battery still turns on lights and automatic loching

Many possibilities here:
  1. Possible neutral safety switch problem
  2. Possible shift linkage problem
  3. Corroded or loose battery terminal ends
  4. Possible ECM (computer) problem
With your foot on the brake, try starting the car in Neutral. If it starts, it would indicate a either a neutral safety switch or shift linkage problem.
If there's excessive corrosion or if battery terminal ends can be moved by hand, they need to be cleaned and tightened to ensure good contact. It takes much more power to start a car than to turn on lights.

Honda Accord 1993 EX is stuck on Park. It doesn't budge if I start the car and it doesn't budge if i try to shift to N,P,D4,D3

Use your ignition key and stick it straight down into the slot marked shift lock, next to the shifter. That will allow you to shift it into neutral. Leave it there, remove the key from that slot and start the car. You will then be able to shift into drive, from neutral, and be on your way.

I have a 1999 Mercury Sable that will not start. When I turn the key it does nothing, and I have already changed the starter. Any ideas on what it may be?

need more info.

Does the engine crank over?

Do the headlights work? If not, jump start it with jumper cables. Let the car sit for 15 minutes with the jumper cables connected so it can partially charge the battery of your car. Then try to start it.

Check the battery cable connections and clean them too.

I ran my battery down and recharged it but the car still won't start and won't go into park...how do I reboot the computer, I was told that might be the problem.

remove the battery and put a fully charged new battery in there. The battery must be charged to allow the car to resent the pc. Removing the battery and then reinstalling a new one - fully charged will reset the pc as removing the negative side of the battery is what causes the car computer to reset.

You must have a good battery - push the brake and also shift into part. Otherwise - attempt to start it in neutral. Look for blockage in the shifter housing - pens - pencils and or coins can keep you out of park.
