More than likely it's the distributor. They have a tendency to build up corrosion and rust and have personally went through the same situation three weeks ago on a suburban. Check to see if you are getting spark from the distributor first. Have the ecm in the distributor checked at Oriellys for free. It's under the rotor and has two 8mm head bolts with wires plugged in at each end.

SOURCE: 1989 camaro 305 run rough and won't idle. Spits

spray some brake cleaner in the throttle body to keep it running and keep spraying and see if you can rev it up. If this produces better results then check fuel pressure. Most likely time for a pump. If this happen all of a sudden I would not suspect the fuel filter as being the cause and I would also replace it with the new pump.

As much money as you have spent, you could have fixed it and had a lot of beer money left. First thing to check is the KNOCK SENSOR. should be located near the starter.

Can't find distributor cap on mazda 6. want to remove it to see if condensation

You're vehicle does not have a Distributor cap. It has electronically controlled coil/coils, individual to each cylinder. All new car's now use Multipack or individual coil assemblies. Hope this helped...Please vote...

93 jeep cherokee , iv got spark at the coil but not at the plug just replced cap, roter, wires, but still notheing got any ides ?

Coil may be producing low voltage (KVs) to where it makes enough energy to snap out of the coil tower but then supressed as it travels down the high tension leads finally to the plug. Incidentally spark plug leads should have about 10k ohms of resistance per foot.I good coil will jump spark at least a half inch if you pull the wire off the cap and produce this much air gap

sounds like you have an electrical problem, get a diagnosis, and see if all your fuses and everything are all getting power, and if they are, then try replaceing the rotor on the distributor cap

My geo will turn over but will not start. It was parked and then an hour later would not start. a fuse in the fuse box on the fender is burnt out and it says am2 on it . I do not know if this has...

I'm not sure what that fuse means but it would be a good idea to change it. If changing the fuse doesn't fix your issue, your problem may be in the distributor cap or ignition coil.  I would check these parts first before trying anything to in depth.  The way to check the coil is to take the lead coil wire that leads from the coil to the center of the distributor cap.  Take this wire off at the end of the distributor cap and put a spark plug inside of it and lay it on something like the intake of the car.  IT MUST BE METAL AND GROUNDED!!! Then turn the key on and crank the engine while having someone watch for a spark.  If you don't get a spark next use either a test light or a voltmeter and check to make sure you have 12 volts to your coil.  If you do have voltage to the coil and no spark, then it should be your coil.  If not then you need to move further into the workings of the electrical system.

Not starting

The opti-spark distributor cap is below the water pump.
Often a leaking water pump will cause a short in the distributor
Due to the amount of time and labor cost to remove the water pump, and that fact that the water pump has to be removed to replace the distributor cap, it is a good idea to replace the distributor cap at the same time the water pump is replaced. The water pump is driven by a pinion shaft with an " O " ring. Be sure to replace the " O " ring too else you may shortly develop an oil leak at that point.
