If the battery light is lit you have a charging system problem - alternator !

Testimonial: "Also think it may need an idle control sensor because it idles up high when the battery light goes off but battery light comes back on it idles normal or too low and almost dies on me. But idle sensor wont make the head lights go dim and flash. Help anyone????"

  • Jeff Armer Aug 24, 2015

No idle control sensor ,as you call it . It is actually called a IAC motor idle air control, An no it doesn't need it . Your alternator is causing the whole problem ! When the battery light comes on you running on just the battery , the lower voltage is causing this idle fluctuation ! That it to you closest parts store an have them test the charging system !

2001 Buick Legal LS dash board mileage light is very dim, the svs light and antilock light stay on

If the dashboard mileage light on your 2001 Buick Regal LS is very dim and the Service Vehicle Soon (SVS) light and antilock light stay on, there could be a few potential causes for this issue. Here are some things you can check:
  1. Dim dashboard light: If the dashboard mileage light is very dim, it could be due to a burnt-out bulb or a problem with the dimmer switch. Try turning up the brightness using the dimmer switch, and if that doesn't work, check the bulb and replace it if necessary.
  2. SVS light and antilock light: The SVS light and antilock light staying on could indicate a problem with the car's computer system or with the antilock brake system. It could be caused by a faulty sensor, a wiring issue, or a problem with the computer itself. It's recommended to have the car's computer system scanned for error codes to determine the root cause of the issue.
  3. Battery or charging system: A weak battery or faulty alternator can cause electrical issues in the car, which could be related to the dim dashboard light and the warning lights staying on. Have the battery and charging system checked to rule out this possibility.

2007 Yukon XL, 1500 SLT, 4WD, headlights randomly go bright to dim and back very quickly

Yes this can be a normal condition caused by load being applied to the headlights and that lowers the voltage, the lites dim, then the load is removed and the lights brighten. Typical loads that cause this are AC climate control related. Have the Alternator load tested to confirm there is no problem in the charging system. Also have the battery tested, a battery that is starting to fail can cause this problem as well, a failing battery takes a huge amount of charging system power to keep it up, so that makes the lighting see higher spikes in voltage

Electrical

try to reset the battery the computer which controls the alternators output might be confused. To reset the computer disconnect your battery for around 35 minutes and then hook it back up. This should solve your problem.

Headlights and dash lights dim

I just had found the solution to my dash light problem. The ground between the battery neg pole and the car frame was bad (broken battery holder) That ground signal also goes to the motor (that connexion was good) but the connection between the frame of the car and the neg pole of the battery was intermittent.
