If this is a 4 cylinder then it will be about 3 hours. you should replace the belt tensioner while in there and the water pump so you don`t have to pull it apart again. you can buy timing belt kits that come with the necessary belt, tensioners, but not water pump.

first thing i need to know is did the timing belt break?
second is are you sure you aligned the timing marks and after the belt tensioner was tight you rechecked to make sure the timing stayed where you had it.
next step would be a compression check to if a valve was bent whenchanging the belt
i have seen this happen and this engine is an interferance engine.

With regrets, Not likely, pull the vlave cover and observe the height of the valves, if it is bent it should be not quite as tall as the rest.

Have a 2000 GMC Yukon Denali. Won't fire.

Make sure that the belt isn't extremely tight and they the belt tensioner isn't liked up by pulling in the belt. It should move and spring right back. Make sure engine isn't locked up. And please explain what happen with the vehicle. The fact that you replace plugs and wires and fuel filter for a car that's not turning is throwing me off. So right now we are going all over the place. But definite look at belt and tensioner I've seen a few times that a bad tensioner will make the belt wrap around tighter inhibiting the engine from turning.

SET THE TIMING ON MY 96 DODGE AVENGER 2.0 ENGINE

Did you go "by the book" on the timing belt installation procedure? Crtitical on these engines that the timing is spot on, and the tension is set correct
When installing the belt, the exhaust cam sprocket mark should be 1/2 notch below the mark on the intake sprocket, until belt is installed. Then you turn the exhaust cam back to line its mark with the intake cam's mark. This is to remove slack from the belt. Now both cams should have their marks facing each other, while the crank is at TDC with its notch lining up with the arrow on the oil pump case. And the arrows on the cam sprockets should both be facing up.(Belt installation: start at crankshaft, then around water pump sprocket, idler pulley, camshaft sprockets, and then around tensioner pulley. Now is when you turn exhaust cam back ( 1/2 notch) to line up with intake cam, removing slack.)
The procedure for the tensioner is dependent on whether you have the mechanical tensioner or the hydraulic tensioner. On the hydraulic tensioner, you will have a pin (like a small allen wrench, very small) placed into the hole on the tensioner to hold the plunger in until installed, and again, by the book, once you have the tension set correctly, you should be able to remove and install the pin easily back into the hole after rotating the crank a couple of revolutions. If the pin will not go back into the hole, take the tension off, and do it again till it is right. The procedure for setting the tension is a bit involved, but here it is: install tensioner to block, do not tighten. Using a torque wrench on the tensioner pulley, apply 250 inch lbs. of torque to the tensioner pulley.Move tensioner up against the tensioner pulley bracket and tighten the fasteners to 275 inch lbs., with torque still applied to the tensioner pulley. Remove tensioner plunger pin. Tension is correct when the pin can be removed and replaced easily.
I hope this helps you. I just finished a timing belt on a Chrysler v-6 Cirrus. Had to do it twice before I got it right, but it works well.
Good luck.

How do you put a belt on a 2004 dodge ram diesel pickup

Going to assume it is a 5.9 cummins. Use a 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive ratchet in the hole on the belt tensioner to push or pull the tensioner away from the belt. You'll have to run the new belt around the pulleys and then move the tensioner back enough to get the belt back on and then the tensioner will spring load against the belt holding it on. There should be a diagram of a drawing of how the belt goes or you can draw your own picture of how the belt goes around each respective pulley. Find a library or go on line for belt diagrams. If the belt won't stay on it is time for a new tensioner too.

How do you get a 2004 chevy trail blazers motor timed right

Timing on this vehicle should be computer controlled. There are not adjustments you can make to the timing except replace the timing belt. There is no Distributor adjustment and you can't access the vacuum advance to make adjustments there. If the timing is off there is a problem with the timing belt tension mechanism or timing belt, the vehicle on board computer or another cause for this. A loose timing belt would cause this and a bad tension mechanism would cause it both would give you timing that jumps around.

How to do timing belt on 2004 foerd focus

Remove Your Timing Belt

1Disengage the negative battery cable in all models.

2Detach the passenger inner splash-shield and wheel cover, the accessory drive and timing belts, the tensioner and the crankshaft pulley.

3Remove the spark plugs, catalytic converter and idler pulley in 2000 and older Ford Focuses. These models also require the crankshaft be turned to "Top Dead Center" (TOC) and a crankshaft timing peg be inserted. Turn the shaft to the right against the timing peg.

4Undo the retaining fasteners and lift the timing belt cover off the engine. Align the crank and camshaft timing marks. Older models call for undoing the water pump pulley and valve cover before locking the camshaft in place.

5Release the tensioner's bolt. Turn the arm to the right 14 degrees and place a 1/8 inch drill bit in the opening. This secures the belt tensioner in place.

6Take the timing belt off.
Install Your Timing Belt

1Replace the timing belt counterclockwise motion beginning at the crankshaft.

2Unlock the tensioner. Recheck the timing marks by turning the crankshaft two rotations to the right.

3Tauten the tensioner's pulley bolt to 15 to 22 foot pounds (20 to 30 Nm) in 2003 and younger models and to 17 to 20 foot pounds (22 to 28 Nm) in older Focuses. Remove the crankshaft timing peg. Reconnect the crankshaft pulley and secure to 81 to 96 foot pounds (110 to 130 Nm) and 81 to 89 foot pounds (110 to 120 Nm) respectively.

4Replace the splash shield, front wheel, timing belt cover, accessory drive belt and tensioner and any other items that were disconnected.

5Hook up the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check that the timing belt is functioning properly.

How do i release tension on a 2004 pontiac vibe

Take note of the tensioner pulley and the tensioner arm that extends from the pulley. The tensioner pulley is the smallest pulley and has a metal arm extending from it. A bolt is located near the top of the arm. Place a ?? mm wrench on the tensioner arm bolt and rotate it forward to relieve the tension on the belt. Do not release the tensioner arm.
Pull the belt off of the pulleys and slowly rotate the tensioner arm back into its original position.

  • Step 3 Place a 15 mm wrench on the tensioner arm bolt and rotate it forward to relieve the tension on the belt. Do not release the tensioner arm.
  • Step 4 Pull the belt off of the pulleys and slowly rotate the tensioner arm back into its original position.

Timing belt “B” (balancer belt) and related components—2004–2005 Galant and 2004–2005 Lancer 2.4L engine

    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the engine under cover.
    2. Remove the crankshaft damper pulley.
    3. Disconnect the control wiring harness connector, battery wiring harness connector and connector bracket to engine mounting insulator.
    4. Remove the harness bracket. Remove the upper timing belt cover. Remove the water pump pulley. Remove the idler pulley.
    5. Remove the auto tensioner. Remove the lower timing belt cover.
    6. Turn the crankshaft clockwise and align each timing mark to set the number one piston to TDC of its compression stroke.
    7. Remove the timing belt under cover rubber plug and then install special tool MD998738. Screw the special tool until it contacts the timing belt tensioner arm.

NOTE The special tool must be screwed in gradually at the rate of a 30 degree turn per second. If it is screwed in all at once, the timing belt tensioner adjuster rod will not easily retract and the tool may bend.

    8. Gradually screw in the special tool and then align the timing belt tensioner adjuster rod set hole “A” with the timing belt tensioner adjuster cylinder set hole “B”.
    9. Insert a wire or pin in the set holes to lock the assembly in place. After removing the special tool, loosen the timing belt tensioner pulley mounting bolts and remove the timing belt. If the belt is being reused be sure to mark the direction of rotation (clockwise) on the belt.
    10. Remove the timing belt tensioner pulley, tensioner arm and adjuster.
    11. Remove the timing belt idler pulley. Remove the timing belt lower cover bracket. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
    12. Remove the crankshaft pulley center bolt and washer. Remove the drive sprocket. Remove the crankshaft angle sensing blade.
    13. Remove the balancer timing belt tensioner. Remove the timing belt “B” (balancer belt) from its mounting.

How do you tighten the main belt that connects to altonater water pump power steering ect.

The job of maintaining belt tension falls on the Belt Tensioner. It's time to replace it. They're pretty reasonable in the $25-$35 range.
