I have a 2000 Mercury Villager and the fuses for the turn signals and brake lights keep blowing. Why?

I just got this van so I know nothing about it but I had to replace the fuse for the turn signals and the fuse for the brake lights before I would drive it.. I replaced them and within 10 minutes of driving the fuses blew again and it smelled like burning wires in the van. I smelled it strong near the front of the van inside.

A burning smell is an important symptom of something VERY WRONG. Get it towed to a repair shop, and get them to trace the wiring harness.

(#23fuse)No turn signals/backup lights - keep blowing fuse. hard to get out of park.

You have a short to ground on that circuit , you need to look at a wiring diagram an see what all is on that circuit . It's hard to get out of park because this circuit supply's power to the shift interlock actuator . You don't need to step on the brake pedal for this fuse to blow ? just stick in a new one an it blows ? This fuse also powers the brake switch , which powers your brake lights . 1995 mercury villager that the battery light and the brake light are on when the van is running and dash lights go on and off.

The alternator is not charging the battery. Could be a bad connection bugt usually it's the alternator that's bad. The Villager & Quest both turn on the battery light and the brake light when the charging system is not working porperly

Lost remote to disable alarm on 2000 mercury villager how can i disable it and start my van

If you have the factory alarm system, you can put your key into either door and lock and unlock the door, that signals the computer to deativate the alarm. If you have an aftermarket alarm system installed, it will have to be removed and the wiring that the alarm ties into must be restored to factory design.

Rear brake lights remain on.

check the brake switch. it controls a brake relay which may have fused contacts.
