    if engine is gasoline
and if it has fuel rail, as many do
the FPR is on that rail (left or right)
but if the car is newer, in USA the EPA forced the car makers to move the FPR to near fuel tank (OR INSIDE)(smog reasons)
see why year, and engine and country matter?>
cars are not all the same, if they were
you'd not need 3 years of training to fix one.

    so
Beginning in 1998, the US-spec Trooper became equipped with a DOHC 3.5 L
6VE1 engine. with belt drive cams.
the snap ring off, release it.
(and lots of gas bath) if done WRONG.(ask)

    this engine? wild guess. purely
    part 12

Safety is the most important factor when performing not only fuel system maintenance but any type of maintenance. Failure to conduct maintenance and repairs in a safe manner may result in serious personal injury or death. Maintenance and testing of the vehicle's fuel system components can be accomplished safely and effectively by adhering to the following rules and guidelines:

To avoid the possibility of fire and personal injury, always disconnect the negative battery cable unless the repair or test procedure requires that battery voltage be applied.
Always relieve the fuel system pressure prior to disconnecting any fuel system component (injector, fuel rail, pressure regulator, etc.), fitting or fuel line connection. Exercise extreme caution whenever relieving fuel system pressure, to avoid exposing skin, face and eyes to fuel spray. Please be advised that fuel under pressure may penetrate the skin or any part of the body that it contacts.
Always place a shop towel or cloth around the fitting or connection prior to loosening to absorb any excess fuel due to spillage. Ensure that all fuel spillage (should it occur) is quickly removed from engine surfaces. Ensure that all fuel soaked cloths or towels are deposited into a suitable waste container.
Always keep a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near the work area.
Do not allow fuel spray or fuel vapors to come into contact with a spark or open flame.
Always use a backup wrench when loosening and tightening fuel line connection fittings. This will prevent unnecessary stress and torsion to fuel line piping. Always follow the proper tightening specifications.
Always replace worn fuel fitting O-rings with new. Do not substitute fuel hose or equivalent, where fuel pipe is installed.

SOURCE: 2001 Trooper turbodiesel oil pressure gauge

Drop the small tin sump down and look at the longer of the pick up pipes for a bad O seal or cracking .
This lets the pump pull in air so you dont get pressure - some times they even fall right off .

1996 trooper turns over but wont start

A few things to check:
  1. Did you repressurize the system after replacing the fuel pump? THIS IS THE MOST COMMON ISSUE. You must cycle your ignition switch from OFF to ON several times before first start after depressurizing the system;
  2. Has the vehicle been bumped hard, violently jarred, or in an accident? RESET THE INERTIAL SAFETY SWITCH;
  3. Are you getting correct fuel pressure? If not, replace the fuel pressure regulator.

95 trooper flooding cylinders when cranking, runs great when starts, but setting all day or night, floods again, will run then if spark plugs removed & cleaned!!, all sensors changed!! WHAT TO DO NEXT??...

Connect a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel line and check the fuel pressure. If it exceeds manufacturers specifications; replace the fuel pressure regulator.
Spark plug cables which have aged, and now have more han 1,000 ohms resistance per inch of length, also can lead to cylinder flooding; and should be replaced.

Fuel pump replaced and still no fuel pressure?

If you have yet to check the Fuel Pressure Regulator, generally located in the fuel line under the hood, I would take a look at that.

Over fueling and not wanting to accelerate.

Have your map sensor checked.
Black smoke is unburned fuel or carbon.
Is your check engine light on?
If so go to Autozone or Checker O'Rellys
And have them get you a free reading.
