You will have to remove the air bag, steering wheel, clock spring, tension retainer, remove your upper and lower column trim covers, then you can get to the retainer for the old lock cylinder and remove it. You will have to unplug the connector with the orange and white wires for the chip reader for the VATTS system. I would suggest taking your new lock cylinder and your old key to a lock smith and having your new cylinder keyed to your old key so the correct chip will be read. It is usually easier to use your old key than it is to have a new key with the correct chip cut.
Ugh... Wish there was a way to do it without removing the steering wheel. Thank you for your help.
I would suggest making sure that whoever does your work knows what they are doing. With messing with the airbag clockspring it is very easy to ruin it if you don't know what you are doing.
Yeah, I think I may take this one to the mechanic. I was hoping to avoid it but this seems beyond my capability. Thank you.
You can go ahead and buy the new lock cylinder ahead of time and take it to a lock smith with your original key to have it re-pined to work with your key. It will save you some time in the long run.
