I want to change a 3.7 motor off of 2004 jeep Liberty 2wd in order to fit my 2002 jeep liberty 4wd?

The engine on my 2002 Jeep liberty 2002 4x4 got broke, I bought a wrecked 2003 jeep liberty 2004 2wd. after setting, the used motor on my jeep I found out that the torque converter on mine is bigger than the one on the used one. then it doesn't fit on the used motor. what should I change in order for it to fit in it?

Engine swaps are complex as is mixing engines to wrong transmissions.
so both are 3.7L, is that it?
you never said what exacty didnt fit.
the flex plate to TC
or TC to A/T pump side mismatch.
????????
if its the flex then get the correct flex plate.
or call jeep parts? ask them for the right parts
the side of the trans has the trans part number
my guess is all you need is the correct flex plate for engine to TC.

Testimonial: "Thank you Juriy Hawrylak !!! Yes both engines are 3.7 but diff yearsand flex plates are different too.but the problem is the tip on the TC. I will try to upload a couple of picts here just for better understanding and furter reference!"

for swaps (complex they can be)
including failing smog and not easy to fix. that.

post the a real jeep forum.
    and ask for swap information
    fixed stock cars is easy
swaps. NOT SO. ( can site 1000's of examples and horrors)

    really sharp people there, http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f28/

jeep.com shows all parts that fit new.
for sure this must match up.

here are the 2002 parts. 45RFE box.
    see those P/Nhttp://www.factorychryslerparts.com/show...

    now the 2004
in 2004 there are now 2 automatics
    the 42FRF and the 45rfe.
you cant mix parts between them .
the 42box was used on 2wd only'
    http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/show...

im not sure what BLEW?, engine or trans or both in original car?

    here is the 2004 42RFE
mixing up transmission parts, is not easy.
you might call a transmission shop and ask this.

    if only swapping engines?
then you need to buy a flex plate.
    only a 3.7L engine swap (2wd to 4wd)
42 box setup engine and flex.
to 45 box in car. (no changes this end)
so the flex plate is wrong. in the new engine.
that be it. (my best guess)
the flex plates must match engine
    and TC and box.

SOURCE: 2003 jeep liberty air bag light on is it easy to fix

The system needs to be checked for cades. Airbag codes are pulled out of the ECU with the use of a scanner tool. A good auto mechanic shop will have this or you can go to the dealer. YOU SHOULD NOT TRY TO REPAIR THIS YOURSELF,YOU COULD ACTIVATE THE AIRBAG!!!!!

SOURCE: 2003 Jeep Liberty heater fan problem

It is the blower motor resistor. Look under the passanger side dash and locate the fan housing (looks round and black in color. Then locate the resistor it will be in that housing usually withtwo ten millimeter nuts or two simple screws holding it in. unplug the harness to the resistor and remove the resistor. Part store price is approx. 50.00. Note: on aftermarket (not Jeep) resistor sometimes you have to modify the housing a little to get it in. Hope this helps.

yes, replacing the alternator with the battery connected does blow a fuse.
in 1 nano second fast. BOOM , let the smoke out. but saved by the link.
OKAY you were right the liberty has that link

you were right, it has links !

Is there ANY other engine that will fit in a 2002 jeep liberty limited? 3.7L v6... need a whole new engine

3.7L EKG Powertec, engine. SOHC with roller followers,
did you check compression, or just P030x codes???????
and what if its just a stuck valve or collapsed lifter
why not ask for help in diagnosis?
compression bad? on one or more? cylinders, post #
pull the Valve covers, see if there are broken valve springs
or bad cam lobes, or lifter bad? (motion)
if it didnt burn oil , try rebuilt heads.?

ran for 12 years, so what is the mileage>? 300k?
Oil changes, at 5000 ?

the 3.7 may fit...says wiki.
warning, some engine blocks may NOT be same. (filter mounts, engine mounts) check first.
but you can find this at any engine builders web site. (google them)
ive swapped many and engine, even wrong engines.?grin
there are always choices, i always have and had spare cars.
so down time is never an issue for me.
but others yes. (rent a car is one option while fixing another)
1: if the block is bad get a short block.
2: if the heads are bad get yours rebuilt , or exchanged.
3: if you blew the engine to total destruction, pistons hit valves? (rare)
then get a used engine, or buy a rebuilt.
or pull yours and take it to any top machine shop and drop it off.
bingo, fixed and cheap too. no middle man, to rip you.

history.
The 3.7 liter PowerTech V-6 engine is, essentially, the 4.7 V-8 with two fewer cylinders.
then later, morphed to the Pentastar V6. (today's motor)
cast iron block, (lasts long time, easy to bore and rebuild)
no rubberband cam belts, real chain, drive.
2 valves per cyl. making head rebuilds fast and cheaper.
forged pistons, not cheap cast.
MOPAR is not POS.
ask engineer Brian Crothers

I run the 3.8L in my 08 JK.
its a real low tech, push rod motor. (ended in 2011)

id fix mine, if it failed
my guess is it is head failure, , so get the newer
rebuilds with pinned, valve guides and run it.
