Model year make and model? Lot of newer models when you turn you're steering wheel all the way to the right an anti theft activates locks the steering column if you insert you're key well you move the steering wheel to the left you're car should start also you may overall just need a ignition switch replacement.
Your steering wheel locked up too? Try wiggling the key & turning the steering wheel at the same time. Alot of times the key wont turn if the steering wheel is locked up.
wd40 first easiest fix remove steering wheel to see what is binding inside. unhook small rod going to ignition switch to eliminate switch as a problem. check ignition switch to see if it is loose. tighten as necessary.
turn the steering wheel counter clockwise (to your left) forcefully. while holding the steering wheel, insert the key in the ignition switch and try to turn it on, if the key wont move, try to **** the steering wheel repeatedly while try to turn on the engine every ****.
I would say it is the ignition switch. You can try to get the steering wheel unlocked moving it, but usually when the key won't turn, it is the switch or security system. You will need to reset it to find out. Call the dealership if you don't have it.
Hi what is happening is that your turn off your car and left the wheels turned to one side and specially if your car is parke in a hill what you have to do is to force the steering wheel to the same direction of your wheels this will free up the ignition switch it is going to be hard let me tell you but it will work and this is why your shift don't work once you have the ignition switch free then your shift will work again
Sometimes you can jiggle the steering wheel left and right really hard while trying to turn the key. To change the ignition switch or tumblers you have to remove the steering wheel. Then remove the pressure plate and turn signal switch then you should see the ignition switch. There is usually a pin that you have to pull to release the switch. If I am missing a step it is due to my failing memory. Once you pull the steering wheel, just keep pulling until you get to the switch. Sorry for lack of instuction, I have fibromyalgia and can't remember much anymore. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
the steering wheel SHOULD be locked if the key is not in the ignition and turned to the 1st position. If you can turn the steering wheel more than an inch or so without the key n the first position, the ignition switch (read: thingy you put the key in) is bad.
Sometimes you may have to move the steering wheel slightly to one side or the other to get the key to turn, this in itself is not a cause for alarm. Try it and let us know. If this doesn't work, you are probably looking at a couple hundred dollars parts and labor to get the switch/steering wheel lock mechanism fixed.
