Here is your answer that should help. I personally do not care why you want to don this, it is your business, if you wanted my opinion on that, I feel you would of asked. Here is the answer you wanted however.
Hello Sir. Usually it would say in the owners Hand book you got with car? explaining all the controls functions of the car or 4x4? alternatively if you look under bonnet there only be four filling reservoirs: engine coolant water, washer bottle, brake Fluid, power steering. usually the engine coolant will be a largish cap about 2-3 ins either blue or black its NOT this one. The brake fluid Will be at the back of engine bay and so NOT his one. Washer bottle again will be a cap blue in color its NOT this one. the one you want should be near front of car /engine and should have a steering wheel symbol on it the caps usually smaller then the engine coolant and black attached to a small reservoir and when you remove it will have a dipstick attached to it or small spike attached to cap this is used to measure power steering fluid, hope this helps... Thanks Mike

Can you tell me why you need to change the power steering fluid? I've never heard of doing this and the maintenance schedule in the data base that I use doesn't call for changing it.

What type of power steering fluid and the capicity does bmw 545i 2004

Most BMWs have a dip stick in the reservoir cap to measure the fluid level of the power steering fluid. We use Agip power steering fluid. There are generally just two types, standard Dextrn/ATF and Power steering fluid. Unless the cap or manual states otherwise, then just put power steering fluid in it.

What is the atf oil bottle at the side of the air filter for

Do you mean that there is a plastic bottle of ATF sitting loose under your hood? Or are you asking what the black reservoir with a knurled cap that is full of ATF is for?
If you are asking about the reservoir that is part of the car, it is the power steering fluid. Car parts stores will try to sell you fluid in bottles that say Power Steering Fluid, but your car uses Dextron ATF which is the same thing only it is cheaper when you buy ATF by the quart rather than PS Fluid by the pint.
If you have a bottle of ATF, someone probably put it there so it would be handy when they needed to top off the power steering reservoir. Topping off the power steering reservoir is a routine exercise on many BMWs because their power steering hoses tend to leak.

2001 bmw 740il where do i add power steering fluid

I have not seen this particular model but the reservoir should be toward the front of the engine compartment on the (US) driver side, It has a big black plastic cap about 2.5" in diameter with indentations around the perimeter to grip. On some models they had to tuck it down where you have to reach down between other components to get to it, but on a 7 I would expect it to be up high and easily accessible.
This model came with two styles of reservoir. The standard reservoir is about quart-sized. If the car has self-leveling suspension, the reservoir is taller.
If you intend to own the car a long time, I suggest changing the power steering fluid every 2-3 years when you change the brake fluid and the coolant. If the power steering fluid is not nice and clean and red, it needs changing.

Type of steering fluid for a 2005 x3 2.5 ?

Use only a Dexron-III Automatic Transmission Fluid to top off the power steering reservoir. BMW uses ATF instead of power steering fluid.
