the relay on this van can not be swaped .the relay is on the front bottom driver side and it looks more like a module,I went and picked one up at autozone for $40.00 and that took care of the problem,my first choice was the relay but I could not find it I look under the hood where the relays are but did not find one for the fans , so I went on a web site and found a picture of the relay and then went to my van look untill I found it problem fixed. When was thermostat & water pump done ? There should be another relay same near the fan relay, swap with another that won't affect running & see. Coolant temperature sensor another possibility as well. When was thermostat & water pump done ? I would be a bit leary of hard wiring the fan. That may cause some other problems, such as the motor not getting warm enough in the winter time. I would get another opinion on the price they are giving you. I can see needing to replace the relay, but what is wrong with the wiring, unless the wiring is burnt up, you should be able to just replace the relay.
Change your thermostat before it sticks closed completely. Sticky thermostat is usually the cause. Another possibility is that your radiator fan temperature switch is going bad. This is usually located next to the upper radiator hose at the gooseneck on your engine where the thermostat is located.
