Many things can cause this, but most likely IMHO is trash in the fuel tank (maybe rust?) is getting past the filter "sock" and causing excess current draw. Could also be bad relay or loose wiring or corrsion in a plug in connector. Might be interesting to insert amp gauge into circuit.
Well code 1450 for a Ford product is a problem with the gas tank venting system. I would think the pump in the tank is blowing the fuse, and it could be from excessive pressure in the tank.
The fuel pump fuse blowing is an indication of the fuel pump wires may be shorted inside the tank. If you drop the tank and remove the module, you may find the insulation burned off some of the pump wires. Prob a good idea to take it in. If it is happening to your model, it may be a re occurring problem for that model and mechanics may have seen it before.
Try to follow wiring from fuse panel to relays etc and back to pump while looking for bad, loose, soft, thin or corroded connections along the way and clean or repair them as necessary to be sure you have a good clean source for current to flow. Any of these in wiring can cause amperage draw to go up, thus causing the fuse to blow. If all that checked out good, then the probable cause is the fuel pump getting worn and drawing too much amperage thus replacement is necessary. If you have a trusted mechanic in the area who can do an amp draw test on the fuel pump wiring harness, that should tell you for sure.
If it is blowing the fuel pump fuse, then when replacing the fuel pump one of the wires are pinched. Check the wiring. Even if the fuel pump is bound up or something then it still would not blow the fuse. More than likely the hot wire to the pump is pinched and grounding out.
have you checked the fuse and relay for fuel pump. if they are ok, it is in wiring to pump. check to see if ground to pump is not corroded. 1995-1998 Reset Button location---The fuel pump inertia switch for a 1998 Ford Windstar is located behind the trim panel by the driver's left foot by the hood release (according to the owners manual. good-luck!!
replace the fuel pump, it is drawing to much current, this is common when the pump bearings get worn out, also make sure you replace the fuel pump connector at the fuel tank connection, it will be burnt..
yor fuel pump is more likely to be defective and this can checked by connecting a mulitimeter and checking the current draw on operation should not exceed 3 amps
