Well what engines,
the G16 has spark wells and spark wires going to the distributor cap
the J20 engine is COP coils, used on USA engines...
see the valve cover see those center line black things.
those are wires or cops.
tell engine here, and can show fancy drawings of both engines.
i have full fsm and parts cats.
if cops they unbolt , but will be tricky to get out.
as the maker never used dielectric grease on them.
the bigger H25 V6 engine is done just like the J20
cops, see the magic tricks here, tips , hints and ways and means.

14 steps... do it for you>?
for J20, open hood, see EPA sticker (under hood , look under an up)
it shows correct plug and correct gap there.... in plain view.
99% of posts like this is owner never in life seen a DIS engine.
COPS (coils over plugs)
the J18 esteem is DIS ( 4 coils 4 cops)
the G16 esteem has 2 coil packs, called wasted spark, with 2 high voltage spark wires
and its obvious where they go, to the 2 of 4 spark wells, leaving the 2 coil to direct fire there spark plugs.
so my guess is you have the J18 engine.
with cops.
the above is true on usa esteems, only.

On top of the engine. You need to remove the ignition coils to access the spark plugs.
the G16 has 4 spark wire boots, in the valve cover, called spark plug wells. there.
the J20 has 4 COP coils. the spark plugs are under there.
if you need photos we have time.
